wanna know anything about the Bio program?

MedRomanian:

Let me try to answer your questions.

For your first question, it is relatively competitive to get into one of the more focused bio majors like Neurobiology. You cannot enter as one of these majors (you enter as a general Bio Sci major), so you must apply for the major at the end of your sophomore year. The "competitive" part is that usually you have to have at least a 3.5 to be eligible for the major.

For your second question, the answer is yes. Everyone and their mother thinks that they want to go to med school. But usually maybe a third of them will actually make it, and sometimes even less.

For your last question, I have gathered from your posts that you're a CHP student. If you're serious about getting in to research, tell this to Ryan and Susan, or one of the CHP PAAs (you'll meet with them during welcome week), and they'll point you in the right direction.

If you have any more questions you can always send me a private message.

Who the hell is Oyama? I don't know that guy. Don't listen to that guy. He's a CC Forum addict! For Pete's sake! He's going to UCSD, yet still replying in UCI turf! Go away stranger! Go away!

En tu cara, Jimmy.

are the majority of the students majoring in biology of chinese decent

How is the neurobiology at UCI?(And if possible, comapred to UCSB)

How difficult are the classes at UCI? Is it hard to maintain a 3.5+ GPA as a BioSci major?

How long do you study each day in order to maintain your ~3.7?

Do the chemistry courses require that you know chemistry pretty thoroughly before entering the class?

You guys realize this thread is 2 years old?

Anyways I have no idea what the neurobiology is like.

I am only a first year but I have not had a hard time keeping above a 3.5 GPA. I am a Public Health Science major though, but so far I have taken the exact same classes as Bio majors. I imagine it might get harder next year.

I went into General Chem with almost no chemistry experience(I learned NOTHING in high school chem) and passed the placement test(which is just basic math) and did fine in 1A, 1B and am in 1C right now. Definitely don’t need to know Chemistry

haha that is some serious necromancy :stuck_out_tongue: didnt even notice it til tater pointed it out

what do you need to get on that placement exam to not take into chem?

I did not noticed the thread was 2 years ago, but anyway ill post a question.
Do i need to get competitive if im going to change majors from bio sci to biochem/microbio or that as long I took the right classes for biochem major in freshman and sophomore year Im able to change majors smoothly?

Sry if my question is kinda wordy, I just dont know how to say it.

From my understanding it really isn’t that terribly hard to get into one of the specialized majors as most of them don’t fill up. Though I am not 100% sure on this but most people I talk to don’t even know there are other majors you can change into after sophomore year…
