Hey guys! Figured I would make one of these to get an idea where I stand as I am going to a senior next year!
I have toured colleges already and found out I love NYU lol. Here are my stats
About me:
Male, Live in California, Asian.
UC GPA Weighted and Capped: 4.0
UC GPA Weighted: 4.50
UC GPA Unweighted: 3.70
Weighted GPA: 4.27 (I took a lot of AP Classes Sophomore/Junior/ and planning Senior Year)
Unweighted GPA: 3.71
CSU GPA: 3.87
I believe that should answer all the questions about GPAs for all the different schools
ACT I got a 32 as a junior, but I really want a 33 or 34, so I am going to study a lot over summer break to bump it up a point or two.
ECs:
I have done a lot of stuff outside of school, i’ll just say my ECs are strong so I don’t have to list them. I have had a couple jobs etc.
As for letters of rec. I have alot of teachers who would probably write me a pretty good one
Essays- I am a pretty good essay writer, so I would assume these would be good as well
Schools:
(I do not need any FA or anything)
Boston College have a connection here as well, not sure if that matters either.
Babson College
Bentley College
NYU Liberal Studies (I would apply ED)
UCB/UCLA/UCI/UCSD (Econ, Business, CS, or Marketing)
University of Washington (I would apply for a nonimpact major) I have a connection not sure if that matters.
UI Bloomington- Kelley School of Business.
Cal Poly SLO (Enviro Major)
USC
UIUC
UT Austin
Some Canada Schools I would apply for CS, Business Admin, or Marketing.
UofT
UBC
McGill
Please tell me my chances in match safety reach format. My GPA has my predicted Senior year grades in them.
So, predicting your senior year grades is a little sketchy, especially since I’m assuming that also entails assuming junior year grades. So, I’ll evaluate your GPA as a little lower than what you’re forecasting it as.
Boston College - High match/low reach
Babson College - safety/low match
Bentley College - safety
NYU Liberal Studies (I would apply ED) - low reach
UCB/UCLA/UCI/UCSD (Econ, Business, CS, or Marketing) UCB Reach, UCLA Reach, UCI Match, UCSD high match
University of Washington (I would apply for a nonimpact major) - Match
UI Bloomington- Kelley School of Business. - Low match
Cal Poly SLO (Enviro Major) - Reach
USC - Low Reach
UIUC - Low reach
UT Austin - High Match
These are rough estimates, and could all change if you get higher ACT scores, and get a little better if you can keep your grades up. It’s also contingent on your ECs being as good as you say they are, and th rest of your application being solid (Essays, Recs, etc). Good Luck.
Would you mind chancing me back?

@HiEthan hey, I think you missed on Cal Poly I am applying for the Enviro major. They accepted almost 100% of applicants on some years.
It’s pretty easy to get into the enviro major that’s why I’m applying to it lol.
Also for NYU I am applying for Liberal Studies (Basically a two year degree with the oppurunity to do CAS if you have a 3.0) The LSP program is basically for kids who aren’t completely qualified for CAS.
I used my schools naviance the access where I stand for most schools.
For SLO, the Environmental Earth and Soil Science major has a predicted acceptance rate of 89%. For Environmental Management and Protection, you are looking at a 39% predicted acceptance rate.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 12%- Low Reach to Reach depending upon major
UCLA: 14%- Low Reach to Reach depending upon major
UCSD: 39%- High Match to Low Reach depending upon major
UCI: 57%- Match
SLO: Match to High Match depending upon which Environmental Science major ^^^^
USC: High Match to Low Reach depending upon major
@Gumbymom SLO I would apply to Earth and Soil will it be a safety? Not sure If im interested in that major completely so would transferring to a new one be a big ordeal? The reason I’m applying for that major is I loved AP enviro and I feel like it is something I’ll enjoy but again not sure. Also for USC I am going Geological Studies or Communcations maybe gender studies although idk.
SLO’s Environmental Earth and Soil Science major (old Geology major combined with Soil Science) would probably be a safety, but if you are not interested in that major, it is not always easy to switch. Rule of thumb is it is easier to switch majors at SLO within the same College (College of Agriculture and Environmental Science) vs switching into a major at the other SLO colleges.
When switching majors at SLO, they will also look at your stats (MCA score) that you applied with and see if you would have made the threshold in the new proposed major. Many applicants think they can “back door” into SLO by picking an easier admit major and then switch. SLO knows all the tricks so pick a major you really want to pursue for SLO. SLO is a tough school to apply for if you are undecided about major since they will start you immediately taking major courses in your first year.
My niece is a 2nd year Earth and Soil Science major at SLO. She really like AP Environmental in HS and was also undecided about major, so she picked it. Now into 2nd year, she likes it OK, but not really her top choice but since she is 2 years in, she is not willing to change now. She will stick it out and get her degree.
@Gumbymom Yeah I am not one of those people who are trying to “Backdoor in” I actually enjoyed Enviro and it was one of my favorite classes. The only thing is that I am super interested in Business as well so I am unsure.
