I have a friend who’s fairly smart, but kind of a knucklehead. He’s a sophomore and last semester had a 3.6 and this semester will finish with anywhere from a 3.2 to a 3.8 depending on his grades at a good public high school in the LA area. He hasn’t taken the SAT yet, but I would guess that his score would be from mid 1400s to low 1500s when he takes it in a year since his PSAT was pretty good. He doesn’t do much in the way of actual extracurriculars, but he’s an amazing classical guitar player. He told me he would set his chances at Berkeley at 20%. I’d set them at 5%. I’d like to know what you guys think his chances are at UC Berkeley or just a UC in general because private & out-of-state U’s are off the table financially.
