Is UIUC a hard institution to leave to transfer to a different institution? I am majoring in bio on the pre-dental track and I really want to transfer into a northeast region institution (Boston University, Tufts University, Brandeis University, and Northeastern University). I’ve had first week of classes and I feel like the general chemistry (chem102) with Dr. Huang is going to kill my GPA and I wouldn’t be able to transfer into any of the schools I want to transfer into. I only took highschool level chemistry (at an “advanced” college preparatory level, something above CP but lower than honors) and I scored a B+ without trying too hard. I’ve had first week of classes and I feel like I’m going to get a bad grade in chem 102. There is chem101 on the other hand, which is an introduction to general chemistry course that lasts one semester, and it doesn’t count for credits for virtually any schools. Should I take chem101 and try to get a better grade but risk not being able to transfer to those schools, or take chem102 and hope that I get a good enough grade to transfer? I really REALLY want to transfer lol help me out please. Money is not an issue for me.
Since chem 101 doesn’t even count for credit, i won’t take it, but since you want to transfer to good schools, taking chem 101 and getting a high gpa imo is better than getting a B in chem 102
Go to office hours, TA hours, help rooms, and study groups. Wherever you can get extra help/tutoring. If you are already struggling in chem 102, focus on your academics at UIUC, not on transferring. Chem 102 is going to be difficult anywhere.
Chem 102 with Huang was the first time I ever got a D on a midterm. Still got an A in the semester. Take advantage of the resources available and make sure you do the homework.
