i want to move to the uk and go to a university there instead of in the us. so i guess basically i want it to be long term study abroad. any one done it or know someone that has?

Generally you can only study abroad for a max of 1 year. The whole idea is that you study at an external university in which you gain credit to go towards your home uni, whom which you pay fees.

Really you would be looking at a course transfer if you wat to go back and live in the UK, study abroad is for the short term.

You can apply directly to the UK university via the UCAS system. Look on each university’s website for grade requirements, etc. UK universities accept lots of US students, so this isn’t a problem. It will probably cost about as much, or perhaps a bit less than studying in the US.

[Home - Complete University Guide](http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/) is a good place to start your search

i want to do something that more permanent than study abroad. just wasnt sure if it was possible. does that make sense?

More permanent than study abroad = transfer.

Unless you can arrange with your university that you study in overseas for an extended period of time whilst gaining credit. If you don’t gain credit whilst overseas you will get no closer to finishing your degree.

You can’t usually transfer into any UK uni. There isn’t really any such concept. UK students who want to switch just drop out and start again usually. You need to do what Biologyguy says are directly enroll for 3-4 years at a UK uni. However, there is no financial aid, your credits are very unlikely to transfer and getting a degree from a UK uni does not entitle you to live in the UK once you graduate (if that is what you mean by long term).
