Warning about UCSD

Sorry but SB and Davis actually have higher standards to admission and even Irvine is generally more difficult to get into. Plus, UCSD only recently changed their TAG to 3.5 because they no longer needed the extra students. The school is large and just doesn’t have nearly the same draw as any of the tier 1 or 2 UC’s and even many CSU’s. Rankings in this matter are misleading and does not detract that naive UG’s are trying to play the prestige game by riding on the coattails of grad school accomplishments. Not to mention how research funding dollars effect rankings which is SD’s main strength and draw for grads students

@ I know a lot of UCLA students that go to UCSB to party as well.
Sorry but the discussion at hand is about UC Socially Dead not UCLA or UCSB so please stay on topic.

@P.S I was right… using the internet comments as your actual source (and generalizations)… rather than actually knowing people from UCSD ><. Honestly their will always be people who have more school pride than others. So your source is not really valid or at least its weak evidence.

I do know people that attended UCSD and they all same the same thing…BORING with SAD students. I can’t prove that but can using the internet on what other students have said. Those comments are UCSD students so this has nothing to do with bashing another persons choice of school. My source is one of many university web sites where students post the pro’s and con’s about their school. I don’t know how more honest an opinion you can get than that.

Using the Urban Dictionary on UCSD
[Urban Dictionary: ucsd t-shirts, mugs and magnets](http://www.urbandictionary.com/products.php?txtid=1567467)
as a source I say would be of lesser value but still fun, something UCSD is not. It sounds like you take yourself way too seriously and severly in denial over this issue to accept consensus reality so you may not want to read any further. Have fun in class, it will be the most fun thing you did all day while attending UCSD.

ucsd
University of California at San Diego is located in Torrey Pines a part of La Jolla, CA. A beautiful, yet listless/dead/lame campus with self described smart people that are afraid of socializing outside a labratory.

Houses a single gender of Tritons, see smart people that do not venture more than 4 miles from campus. Students are not known to have any social skills and the College Board and the US Congress is questioning whether to allow UCSD to use the term College or University due to lack of Sports, Parties, Fraternities and exposure to true diversity.

UCSD students are absolutely afraid of a typical college student, see sdsu and usd and they are known to self destruct when mixed with alcohol and large parties see wet my pants. Most students go home every weekend to mow their parent’s lawn and program the VCR while hoping the girl/boy from the 8th grade that laughed at them has changed their mind.

Of the group of people think that UCSD is a good social environment, they were most likely not accepted at UCLA, UC Berkley, The Ivy leagues and SDSU.

I seriously don’t know what the hell you are even talking about now. Your writing has degenerated to the point where some sentences don’t even make sense. “Plus, UCSD only recently changed their TAG to 3.5 because needed the extra students because the school is so large.” ??? That’s making the standard HIGHER.

edit: Ah, I see you edited your post. In any case, they raised the TAG because they received so many this year, not because they needed more students.

Numbers don’t lie. 36 -SD < 44 -UCI < 48 -SB.

Also, you just quoted Urban Dictionary. There will be negative comments similar to the one you just quoted for every school in the UC system.

UCSD is easier to get into than UCI,UCD,UCSB? Lets see if thats true.

For CC transfers, here’s the link.

http://statfinder.ucop.edu/StatFinder/drawtable.aspx?track=1</a></p>

Its more of the same for First time Freshman. UCSD acceptance rate only larger than UCB and UCLA.

You need to do research before you start making claims that cant be backed up by facts bro.

Believe what you want to believe but most people familiar with California’s educational system know the truth on this issue without having to resort to some stats war.

Who needs statistical evidence when you have anecdotal evidence right?

Talk about fueling the fire. Just let him have his opinion. In the end, it doesn’t matter. He may have some major angst towards UCSD and he’s entitled to it. Similarly, I have major angst towards UCLA but that stems from being raised with USC family and friends. Either way, UCSD is a fine campus to attend. If you’re that in need of some party atmosphere, wait until you’re 21 and hit up gas lamp every weekend or do the teener thing and go to Tijuana. If you wanna have a party on campus, host it.

So because you have angst against UCLA then I must have angst against UCSD? Uh-huh (nodding) ok, yup that must be it. I could care less and have nothing against UCSD or people who choose to go there. Getting buttsore or reactionary about this issue only displays the level of denial surrounding it. Feeling personally slighted for attending a socially dead UC and then attempting every weak argument to counter that I do not see as lifting the burden…sowwy.

THere are some amusing excepts from an article (written by a UCSD student of course) on UCSD’s News center.

[UC San Diego Named One of Nation?s ?Happiest? Colleges](http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/awards/04-23NationsHappiest.asp)
April 24, 2010

By Christine Clark

“The University of California, San Diego is ranked among the nation’s happiest colleges for its nightlife, number of student organizations, retention rate and sunny days, according to the Daily Beast, a news reporting and commentary website.”

Here are students reaction:

“Nightlife”??? ***? Someone was smoking crack as they wrote this article"

“UCSD STUDENTS SPEND MORE MONEY ON VIDEOGAMES THAN ALCOHOL”

"The university’s nightlife was given a grade “A” in response to UC San Diego’s social life, art exhibits, campus concerts and entertainment venues such as The Loft, a performance lounge and wine bar that opened in 2008. This social hub has helped build an active community on UC San Diego’s campus.

Keep on spitting your vitriol, you’re just proving my point. The funny thing is that you took 3 negative posts and offer zero positive posts. Sorry but you do have a slant. Thank you.

Eh… as I said I’m not a UCSD student and I am merely defending it from your rash judgements. Anyways I think you have proven your intelligence with those top notch sources you have, as well as the level of your maturity.

This was a fun debate and all, but its not really going to help anyone anymore. You will just keep stating your points over and over, and I will just keep countering it over and over, and repeat. I’m done with this thread. Good day !

For future students reading this thread, I hope you guys find this thread humorous.

USMC and angryengineer
quick question, why the hell do you care so much about ucsd and if its boring? do you even attend ucsd? and if you do and dont like it then freaking transfer instead of complaining non freaking stop.

second USMC i looked at the stat finder
UCSD admit rate was 58.4%
UCSB,UCSC,UCD,UCR,UCI were all above a 60% admit rate with berkely and LA being lower than san diego

so i dont get that argument that san diego is easier to get into as a transfer.

^ why the hell are you lumping me with angryengineer? I posted the statfinder link to refute his claim that UCSD is easier to get into than all the mid tier UC’s.

Learn to read before you start yapping.

^^ you know what USMC i was reading this on my phone during my lunch break, after re-reading it at home, i stand corrected you were in fact giving the stats in a factual way, my bad
