Was she? Front page story in the NY Times. "For Girls, It’s Be Yourself, and Be Perfect, Too"

I hope so. She sounds like a great kid.

People on the Parents forum have been pretty mean about her; they did not like her essay, which is available through a link on the NY Times Web site. I would think she must have been waitlisted since those decisions were online last weekend.

I don't know - and am not quite sure what to think either. You might want to read her app essay...

Kentucky isn't far from Davidson.

There's a very active thread on the article and on Esther over in the CC Parents section...

My guess is she's a nice enough young lady who is, like most kids her age, rather sheltered and parochial in her worldview and who, also like most kids her age from privileged backgrounds and schools [and perhaps Americans in general], have been told their whole life how superior they are because of where they live and go to school. I know it was true for me at that age.

4 years at somewhere like DC might be very helpful and enlightening.

And...if she was waitlisted, I don't give her much chance of admission since I doubt many admits will turn down DC now that tuition will soon be locked in at $20,000!

Whittierst,
I believe that thread was an April Fool's Day post! ;)

NO!? Really?

I'm not crazy about the essay.

I think we can guess that she was waitlisted. The article says she learned of rejections from Amherst and Middlebury Saturday which referd to the Saturday Davidson's decisions were posted online. It is hard to imagine she hadn't learned her decision from Davidson yet unless it was a waitlist.

I am a student at Davidson, and I just received my copy of the Davidsonian, our student newspaper, as I was reading this thread (they deliver the college newspaper to your dorm room for you). In the Davidsonian there is a list of every accepted student for the class of 2011, and Esther's name is not on this list, so she was either waitlisted or rejected.

I feel sorry for Esther. Actually, I guess it's because you have to be fit for a system when you're in it. Esther is just not a perfect example for a top American student. But she would be perfect if she had been in my system. The standard for good varies in different countries. And the ones who are not typical for one system always suffer(it's even severe back here where I am now).
