Currently in a decent state school that ranks above average in engineering/computer science, but really not super impressive. I was exploring options as I would prefer to have a stronger degree. I visited the transfer session for UMIch and the engineering admissions adviser said pretty much I cant guarantee it, but you would most likely be accepted. So I am for sure going to apply but am wondering what other factors I should consider about transferring. I am studying computer science and have a 3.67 GPA. I am involved in clubs at my current school and have some decent friends here.
Is it really worth it to transfer? Would a degree from U MIch really make a big difference in Computer Science? Im already out of state so their wouldnt be a change in tuition price. Anything else to consider? Would appreciate any thoughts or angles that I could consider. Thanks.
How do you like your current school? Except its rank, are you happy there? If so, why not simply involve yourself in activities that will increase your marketability, such as doing internships, developing apps, competing in hackathons, etc. If you are not happy, that’s another story.
Your question is ultimately a personal one.
-What year are in? Will you simply be looking to pick up your degree from U of M or do you still have a fair amount of time to make this campus your own? Living arrangements, roommates, clubs/groups/organizations…
-Are there networking opportunities U of M can offer that would far exceed where you are?
-How many credits will transfer? Will it cost more to earn the same degree if you do not stay where you are?
-How competitive are the classes you take compared to the rigor of U of M - would you be able to maintain your GPA at the new university?
-Are there courses/areas of study at U of M that are not offered where you are now?
Best of luck with your decision.
