Seeking FA for WashU is very detrimental, they are need aware. UCLA doesn’t care for your race.

While Wash U is need-aware, they do a good job of meeting need once you are admitted (be sure to run an NPC to get an idea of est contribution for any school you consider). They have publicized that they are actively seeking to increase urm enrollment, so that would be a positive for you. While your ACT is on the lower end of their mid range you do have the very challenging hs curriculum to balance that. Wash U does tend to have a fair number of students from CA, but overall I think you have a better than average chance (which is still a fairly small number in RD round).

At UCLA, if you applied for a major in any division other than the College of Letters and Science, be aware that admission is by major, so the major you choose may be more or less selective than overall UCLA admission stats may show.

I applied for business econ major in the college of letters and sciences at ucla. Does that hurt or help my chances of admission?

I’m with @mem123 …better than average chance to get into Wash U. I might have bet money you would have gotten in during the ED round.
