Hi all. I am a New Yorker and would just like to know more about Wash U. I know its a great school but I would like some input from ppl who know a lot about Wash U. I only know Wash U from US News like most other places, so I would like to know what distinguishes Wash U from other comparable places. Also, I have been accepted by Rice and I would like to know how these schools compare with each other. Thanks.

Hey- I'm from New York too and I was accepted ED II to Wash U. I love Wash U because it is a medium sized university (6,000) with a residential college system (similar to Yale). While Wash U is nationally ranked in all of its programs, the sciences are particularly renowned. The medical school is ranked #2 in the country, behind harvard, and many undergraduate students are able to pursue research at the medical school if he or she so desires.

I also love Wash U because of its location- the campus is on the border of three different suburban communities, and is literally a mile away from St. Louis (separated by a park larger than central park in NYC). While I have heard that there is pleanty to do on campus, I am happy that St. Louis is so close in case I wish to explore the city. Most of all, while Wash U is known as "The Harvard of the Midwest", the people there (who I met) appeared to be generally laid back. Although undergraduates study hard, I have heard that they also party hard- which definitely appealed to me. I don't know about you or anyone else, but I don't want to solely live in the library for the next four years, or to be part of a university which has almost no social life.

To sum it up, I chose to apply ED II to Wash U because of its great academic program, as well as the presence of a social life. I hope that I helped with your questions- if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Could not have stated that better. Wash U is great, and I am so excited to begin in the fall!
