^good test scores. WashU likes those as well as demonstrated interest (visits, interviews, ED1/ED2). Probably a low reach depending on ECs.
Resume or no resume? Thoughts?
I’ll guess ED2 is filled with students who have slightly better stats than ED1 relative to the school they are applying to. Often students apply ED to schools that are a reach for them. The fact the colleges are so keen to increase their yield makes ED candidates a bit more attractive to colleges. So those who are a bit under but close to having credentials to get into the school apply ED When they don’t get in, they then apply to ED2. Now they have stepped down a notch because if they didn’t get into the school at that level of competitiveness they’d be silly to apply to a school as competitive. So now they are applying to a school with students who they compete with more closely.
Yes, and ED1 probably has more athletes and legacies (compared to ED2), some of whom may have relatively lower stats.
I have a feeling that ED2 will likely be kids rejected from Ivies/Stanford/Chicago REA/ED so it’s going to be competitive.
Just got an email from WashU saying they’re extending their application deadline to Jan 7! I’m still debating between applying RD or applying ED2 there, so this buys me some more time Does anyone think there’s a chance it’ll hurt my application if I take advantage of the extended deadline and apply after Jan 2 (the original deadline)?
@thebearo Not sure why it would hurt – applying ED always shows how much you want to attend a school. Have you visited or had an interview? All those factors together would be good for you. Stats?
@Waldo755 What if I were to apply RD after Jan 2 though? Would that show less interest than applying RD before Jan 2?
I have both visited and interviewed.
1560 SAT, 4.0/4 unweighted, 4.88/5 weighted.
@thebearo I am confused . . . I assumed you meant you sent your application in already and wanted to change the decision. Did you wait until the very last minute?
@Waldo755 I’m waiting until the very last minute haha. So I still haven’t sent my application in yet. But I suppose my original question is not really relevant any more, since Jan 2 has already passed.
Just wondering… anybody know why WashU has so few ED applicants? Last year the split was 2200 ED and 29000 RD
@garamxmasala ED is a big decision, especially if you need financial aid. I would have thought since they accepted around 40% of the ED applicants that it might encourage a higher number.
I guess the obvious answer is it’s not often students’ first choice, but perhaps more likely to be their second choice, which is why they decided to add ED2.
Is anyone else getting nervous?
@elena719 Literally all the time. One girl at my school was already accepted through ED 1, I just hope I get in as well. But for the next month and a half, I’m trying to keep positive thoughts. You know how some people say that if you can see your dream as clear as if it were reality, then they will become reality? I’m keeping with that same theory. Hopefully it will work!
Do you guys have any rituals/ superstitions when waiting for decisions? I’ve heard some people wear the colleges’ shirts or completely avoid anything associated with said college.
Sort of. I bought my son a shirt for his ED1 school ahead of time, and he was denied. I didn’t buy him a shirt for his EA school ahead of time, and he was accepted. So for ED2, I’m waiting until after mid-February to (possibly) buy him a shirt! Silly, I know.
Tomorrow the 1-month countdown begins. Trying not to think about it too much, because I don’t like stewing in stress chemicals. My son is already accepted at Case, and Case ticks all the boxes. I just have a feeling he might be happier at Washu. But who knows!?
Have any of you already received acceptances at other schools where you would (likely) be happy?
Is it likely decisions will be out before Feb 15?
