My D has acceptances at WAUSTL (Olin), USC (Marshall) and Babson College. She does not have strong ideas about where she wants to live/work after college, but she would probably like flexibility to go anywhere in the country. She is interested in finance and entrepreneurship. (And yes, we know Babson is #1 in entrepreneurship, but it’s also true that very few college graduates, even at Babson, actually start a business right after college.) Which of these undergraduate business programs most likely gives her the flexibility to work anywhere in the country and which has the strongest nationwide alumni network?
If you daughter wanted to do high-tech entrepreneurship in California, I’d recommend USC. It will also have the strongest alumni network, although it’s mostly on the west coast. .
Nationally though, I don’t know that the Marshall name is any more advantageous than Olin or Babson.
Thank you, simba9. Your feedback is very helpful…
Unless your daughter wants a very narrow college experience, I would not choose Babson.
Wash U has a gold plated reputation. If my kid, Wash U all the way. Academics, food, housing, facilities…
WashU has pretty strong career centers (there’s one for business specifically). There’s also student owned businesses on campus and a center called Skandalaris that specializes in entrepreneurship. You might want to look them up- they have contests that provide seed funding for students. Sparo Labs is one of their success stories that you can google.
My D is at WashU and loves it. She doesn’t want to come home anymore.
@OnTheBubble is correct. Best housing, best food (both on and off), happiest students, easy access to airports and shopping such as galleria, target, container store, etc.
My D feels pampered and their academics are top notch.
Congrats and Good luck!!!
OntheBubble–Would your advice still apply with Babson giving my D a half tuition scholarship and with our having to pay full costs (tuition/room and board) at WashU and USC? Thanks!
