So does anyone know how it works? Do you apply to the school first and then for a major, or apply directly for a major? If the latter, do one's chances increase if the major is not incredibly popular (even if the student has lower academics than usual applicants)?

the first test of preparedness is whether the applicant knows how to navigate the WashU admissions website, FAQs, etc. :)

It took me 30 seconds to google and find the WashU application guide for freshmen: [Freshmen[/url]

There is also a section of this website devoted to WashU: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/](http://admissions.wustl.edu/apply/freshmen/Pages/default.aspx)

see, it's so easy finding answers even a Stanford grad can do it in under 60 seconds.

It can be possible for certain "intended" majors to be favored over other, more common majors in certain situations (when they have to break a tie).

Well, there's a pre-application form that you have to fill in. Then they will start your application. WashU OAs are very friendly.

Also make sure to read the scholarship info carefully--you need to submit for each scholarship (except art, I believe)
