Johnson181- I would be curious to know which schools actually offer a B.S. in pre med.

fallenchemist - there’s a few regional schools I’m aware of that do so (google is your friend, if you honestly care) - I have a highschool classmate who went that route and is now at a state med school, so I guess it works for some.

If you want a more national school, Notre Dame sort of does. I think they offer a “BS in Preprofessional Studies” or something along those lines, which has the option to concentrate in science. Under that, i would consider that a mash up of a pre-med/pre-dental/pre-vet major.

There are surprisingly many “big” schools that actually offer a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine or pre-medical studies. A list can be found here (I am not sure how complete it is):

[Pre-Medicine / Pre-Medical Studies - Colleges That Offer This Degree](<a href=“Pre-Medicine / Pre-Medical Studies - Colleges That Offer This Degree”>Pre-Medicine / Pre-Medical Studies - Colleges That Offer This Degree)

I tried Google and didn’t find the list RyanMK did, and I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t “honestly care”. Try dialing back on the sarcasm.

RyanMK - Thanks for that list. Obviously I am not going to go through every school on there, but I checked a few just to see. Baylor actually doesn’t have a major called that, at least it is not on their list of majors. They are simply stating that they have a program, which when you click on the link for that program it simply lists the courses any med school requires. So really nothing different at all. For Boston U, they also have no major called that, but instead have a “post-baccalaureate certificate in pre-medical studies”, which again represents nothing more than the bare minimum of courses med schools require anyway. I then switched to a lesser known school, Defiance. They also did not have pre-med as a major, but did have something called “medical laboratory science”, which looked a lot like their biology major with organic chemistry thrown in. But it doesn’t include physics so it cannot be a pre-med major. In fact, Defiance specifically says under pre-med that they recommend being a molecular biology major.

So unfortunately this list seems quite flawed, and I suspect there are either no true pre-med “majors” or very few. I would still like to see a legitimate example. I am not saying it isn’t out there, I just have not seen it yet. I suppose the ND one (Preprofessional Studies in Science) comes closest, but when you add up the required science courses (the basic pre-med ones) and the numerous science electives, it seems like it would basically end up being a regular BS in one of the sciences, although I guess it gives one the flexibility to spread out the science courses over more fields. Interestingly, ND is not on that list you gave the link for. Just an observation, I know you did not bring up ND.

I’ll be honest with you - I didn’t really check the accuracy of the page. I saw that it listed Augustana College, which is right down the street from my hometown. I knew for a fact that they had an actual pre-med major, so I assumed the list was pretty good. Guess that’s what I get for trusting the internet, hahaha. Here’s their site if you want to check it out:

Sorry for the misinformation :/

Edit: Also, Notre Dame was there, only under “University of Notre Dame”

Ah, I didn’t think to look under U. But I suppose that is the official name.
