WashU social scene

Read a thread from 2014ish about this but thought a more updated one would be nice!

I was wondering what the social scene at WashU is like…
How pervasive is Greek life on campus and in regards to the social scene? Are Greek life parties open to everyone?
Are dorm parties popular here? How vigilant are RAs?
What is a typical Friday / Saturday night like at WashU?

I’m pretty outgoing, but dorm parties seems more up my alley (in comparison to bigger frat parties). I know the Greek population is high at wustl, so I guess my question is how hard it will be to find the right social scene for me.

I’m a current WashU student who just finished their first year, and I couldn’t be happier with the social scene. I came into college also thinking that dorm parties would be more up my alley. In first semester, I went to a bunch of them & they’re always a lot of fun. It really depends on who your RAs are, but most just want to make sure you’re safe. So as long as you’re using common sense and not causing a huge disturbance, you’re good. I also went to a few frat parties first semester before anyone in my grade was able to rush which should tell you that it’s relatively easy to get in. Basically as long as you know a brother or know someone who knows a brother. In first semester, I went out like once a week max.

Despite not wanting to be in Greek Life my entire life, I ended up deciding to rush and it was the best decision! Greek Life at WashU is a lot more chill than what you’d expect from a stereotypical state school. That’s why the Greek population is pretty high. It’s a great community once you’re in it, but it doesn’t consume your life at all and we don’t act exclusive to non-Greek people. Once I joined Greek Life, I went out in second semester like 2 times a week.

Point is, whatever you’re looking for at WashU in terms of the social scene, you’ll find!
