I'm having a lot difficulty deciding right now. For both schools I would be paying full; A&M's a lot cheaper though. Although I listed mechE as my major, I might change my major (limited to science or math though). Please help??

What’s the difference of costs?

around 20k (tamu) vs 50k (washu)

^Wow, those are two VERY different schools … very different cultures … which one fits you better?

Wash U’s atmosphere is preferred over TAMU’s. In terms of fit, I’d definitely fit in better at wash u. It’s delightfully quirky, while TAMU seems like pure job training. However, I’m not sure if the environment I’ll be living in is worth so much more. Also, Can anyone comment on washu’s mechE program? When I visited wash u it seemed like all the attention (read: funding) was going to BME’s.

If you are even thinking about grad schools then try to minimize undergrad debt. A&M has a heavyweight name, too.

If money’s an issue and you plan to live in Texas after college, then by all means go to A&M; their reputation is a LOT higher here. Wash U’s a great school, but the extra $120k+ is not worth it if you’re only going to Wash U based on their environment.

According to the BME’s I talked to at Wash U, half of your tuition goes to general research, and then half of that goes to BME. So I think you’ll have more opportunities at A&M as a MechE major. Good Luck!

Thanks guys! I’m definitely leaning towards tamu even though I’d lurve to leave texas (and those “Texans”).

OddMonkey: Funny that you say that about WashU’s rep in Texas. My parents had never even heard of washu until I applied :3 Where are you planning on going to college?
