wat marks should i aim for in CBSE EXAMS (4 INDIA)????

hey

i wanted to know how much marks should i aim for in my CBSE so as not to spoil my chances at admission?? btw i plan to apply to unives like MIT, STANFORD, BERKELEY etc. and hav got pretty nice scores on the SAT I & II.

it would be nice if ppl from india who have got admission in the top univs could tell how much they got in 11th and 12th grades..........if they wish to!!

also, how do univs convert them to american style GPA'S?? do they consider the courses are MUCH harder than those taught at american schools???

12 th std boards hardly matter coz you're apps will be through before them. Make sure your terminal exams(or equivalent)go well.

u'll have decision before ur 12th result...some colleges consider mid-term scores, but also understand how it is in India (i had 40/100 in my midterm Hindi :D) so dont worry bout it

thanx havaldaar and adides 4 ur replies.

anyone else...........ppl from the TiT#14????

eh it doesn't matter. I had a 60% in Bio for mid year grades (flunked the practical exam spectacularly but thankfully that didnt show on the transcript :p)

seriously??????????? arnt u in princeton????

but dont they ask for ur school marks from 9th to 12th??? did u send the 60???

sure I sent the 60 - they were mid year grades - everything else was good though and everyone did as badly/worse in Bio :)

Oh and I exaggerated about flunking the practical - but it was still pretty bad :p

i got a 70% in my HSC exam (CBSE equivalent) and im fine.. so don bother too much about your finals.. but as said before, make sure your terminals and 11th marks are solid. oh and btw.. i had 60% in math for my terminals(12th), 54% in the ninth grade... i got lucky, what can i say?!!!

illbeback, where r u accepted?

i mean college r u going to join?

i'llbeback's going to duke with fin. aid

stiff and formal how much did you get in the terminals illbeback? Are the board exams tougher/easier than the college prelims?

i wont disclose how much i got on my prelims, lest some adcom read it, figure out that im an admissions mistake and rescind my offer! but lets just say that my prelims were quite terrible...

i got 70% in the final board exams with about 1/2 nights study before each paper...yeah so in my opinion atleast HSC is a joke. the prelims are made to be much harder so that we get scared and actually STUDY for the boards. (they didnt fool me!hah.)

however i will also say this- i made a very convincing arguement in my favour to the adcoms. i dont anyone should take the risk and not study....

also,, it really depends on which college your in. JH's terminals were a KILLER. (60% of the college flunked the maths paper) and KC's prelims were supposed to be a joke. so just check with your seniors..

and one more thing- my college gave me the option of sending either my prelim marks or my terminal marks t the univs. check with your college on their policy.

Hey dude look go for the Board examination with all your might.Look they are going to be of help if you drop an year (let's say if u don't get anywhere with finaid--forget the advice if you don't need finaid).
We should be always prepared for the worst.

i disagree. if u have your heart set on something achieve it at all costs. if im dead sure iwant to go to america (as i assume he is) i'd go wherever i got in, even if it was a not so great place, and then transfer out the next year.
i wouldnt waste my time sudyin for the boards, there are so many things in life to do apart from study...

i only sent my mid term scores to 3 colleges. rest never asked for it.

and where did u get admisson adides????

Princeton (among other places but that's where he's going :D)

I'll have to agree with vampiro here.

The college application process and effective preparation for the boards can be done simultaneously. Honestly, I just used the college application process as an excuse to not study much and regret it now.

Just give it your 100%, its an important exam and like vampiro said, you have to be prepared for the worst.

^^ Great advice. I'm lucky I got into college inthe US with good aid because with my board marks, I'd have been screwed over in India.

Don't take the risk. STUDY FOR YOUR BOARDS
