Wayne State MedDirect/MedStart Program

I was wondering if there are people on this thread who got into Wayne State’s MedDirect (or MedStart since that has been around longer) and if they could give me advice as to how I can fully show my passion for wanting to be in the program.

What types of extra-curricular activities did you do? What type of hospital volunteering did you do? How did you show your passion for medicine?

Any solid points of advice that you wish you knew before you applied/got accepted?

Indigent volunteering, inner city health clinics. My son got in and the fact that he volunteered helped a ton. Good luck

The Med Start program at Wayne State no longer exists. It was terminated after Wayne State received several LCME citations one on its medical school curriculum that had not been updated for a while: http://www.lcme.med.wayne.edu/pdfs/curriculum_white_paper.pdf and another on it’s recruitment of underrepresented minorities thus putting it on probation:

It gave way to Med-Direct: http://honors.wayne.edu/future/waynemeddirect.php which focuses much more on underprivileged students with full tuition scholarship: http://www.thesouthend.wayne.edu/features/article_d63a37ac-000a-11e6-b9e0-bbd0bd9f58d2.html

I am applying to this. I’m just wondering what else your son did to get in. Thanks. Any additional information would be helpful!
