Wayne State University BS/MD program

Hi,

I am wondering if Wayne State still offering BS/MD program. My son is junior right now so I am gathering all the information I can for BS/MD program. I was also wondering if Michigan has any other university offering this program. Thanks.

@amber1927, I believe someone had mentioned in another thread that Wayne State has put its MedStart program on hold or that it’s no longer offered: http://honors.wayne.edu/start-programs/medstart.php. This is because Wayne State’s medical school was recently put on probation by the LCME (the regulator of medical schools), although this was contested by the school and it is now on “accreditation with warning”.

University of Michigan used to have a Bachelor/MD program called Inteflex, but they discontinued it a while back.

Here is a list of other Bachelor/MD programs available: http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/BA_MD_programs.html

Thanks for the information. Hopefully everything will work out by the time my son will apply.

@amber1927, no problem. I have no idea whether Wayne State will bring back MedStart even if they do get off of “accreditation with warning”. Honestly, it’s just not that great of a med school (althought’s ranked #63 for Research, #83 for Primary Care) and in Detroit, no less, so I wasn’t really surprised when it got put initially on probation. They had several areas of concern noted by the LCME.

Your son has enough time though to expand his CV to apply to Bachelor/MD programs as a senior. For the other programs, I would note those he might be interested in might require SAT Subject exams, so it’s good to get those done on completion of Junior year.
