Hello!
During these days I have found out about a great program that I am literally dreaming of for my undergraduate degree. It is called World Bachelor in Business and it consists in studying in three different schools in three continents: the first year is at Marshall’s University in California, the second one is at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the third one is at Bocconi University in Milan and finally the last year is at one of these three universities of your choice.
WBB is what I have always dreamed of for my education and I am very motivated and passionate about it. However, WBB is a very competitive programme that is opened to only 45 students.
I am writing this post right now to ask for your help: is there anyone who knows about the admission for WBB - what are they looking for in a student?
I am a very open minded person, who loves living new cultures. I am Italian and right now I am an exchange student in Seattle, Washington. My academic achievements are good, with a GPA of 4.0 here in the USA and an average of 9.1 / 10 in Italy. My English is fair and is getting better thanks to the exchange experience, and I am planning on taking the TOEFL soon. I am in DECA and FBLA and I have recently been a winner at the DECA area competition. In addition, I work in the student store and I am very involved with scholastic activities. I am taking the SAT soon and expect to get a score between 1850 and 1950. Finally, when I go back to Italy I am planning on volounteering in a company to learn about how it works in the real world.
Do you think I have a chance? What do you suggest I do i order to be selected as a WBB student?
Thank you!
Your background really fits in a typical WBB admitted student’s profile. It’s just a SAT of less than 2000 is not competitive at all, for that WBB’s acceptance rate is much lower than USC’s overall 18%. Try to get an 2100+, and I’m almost sure you’ll be in.
@meryaruta
Hey I’m an incoming WBB student this year, so I was in the exact same position as you last year! Basically I think what the admissions are looking for are people who are academically talented, but also the type of people who can thrive in different environments. I think the fact that you have a 4.0 GPA despite being in a different country educational system would be a plus for them. Also, one point I’d like the highlight is prove to them just how much you love this program, and why this program is perfect for you. This means describe some skills you may have that make you a good candidate, such as pre-exposure to different environments, or your interest in doing business on a global scale. But honestly though, I’ve been able to talk with the directors of the program and they’re very nice people! Just do your best to show them why they should pick you and make them feel just how much you love it.
Also, as plsofferme pointed out, I don’t think a SAT score of 1850-1950 will help you very much. I think if you really want this program, you should try around a 2000? Since your GPA and grades in your Italian educational system are very good, this shouldn’t matter too much though. The focus is more on you as a person, rather than just how great you are at taking standardized tests. They just want to see you are of a certain point of academic ability.
@Dumpty Hey i’m reviving this thread again:) i chose the wrong program, and up until last night did I realize it so, and when I clicked WWB there were 4 additional essays that popped up. Since the deadlien is today, it is unlikely that I will have them done before the submission time. However, recently I have found out that you could apply through Bocconi before the deadline in Feb 15… Have you had friends in the program who applied via the Italian channel? Are the chances the same? Thank you
It is doubtful that any of us are familiar with the Bocconi admission policies. Perhaps you should contact someone in Italy, your home country, who is associated with Bocconi and may be able to answer your questions.
Ciao! ti rispondo in italiano.
