I’ve been reading many of these MT boards for about a year now, and have found them extremely helpful…My S is a HS Junior, and is pursuing his MT dream, and we are currently in the process of prepping, creating ‘the spreadsheets’, and narrowing down the list of schools. We started at about 50 schools and are down to 30, but need to narrow it down further.
S has looked at the WCSU curriculum, along with many others, and has categorized it as one that he finds interesting. There’s so much info on the CC website of so many MT schools, I was dismayed to see WCSU hardly mentioned, and was wondering if that’s because it’s not known, or some other reason.
WCSU has recently, become an audition school for BFA MT, and has built a new performing arts theatre, and is about a little over an hour away from NYC. I’m looking for any insight anyone may have on the MT program, staff, etc. at WCSU. I welcome any and all input anyone may have about their MT program. Thank you!
Sorry…just re-read my post, and am not thrilled with how I worded it…I have no ties to the school, and am looking for honest input from anyone that knows of the MT program at the school, or is currently in MT at the school. Thanks!
It is included on the thread titled Big List of Schools by State as a BA program, so perhaps it hasn’t been discussed much as it sounds like a fairly new BFA program. It might be an up and coming program so it may be that there just isn’t a lot of information as of yet because of that.
If you are looking at programs in Connecticut the one most discussed here would be The Hartt School at the University of Hartford as it is a very established MT and AT BFA with a solid track record and a number of parents with kids in the program who post here, including myself - my daughter is a freshman there. If you have any questions about that program I would be happy to answer.
As for WCSU, perhaps the school could connect your son with some students in the program who could provide feedback. Best of luck on this journey - narrowing down a school list is a challenging task. At least you are smart and starting early!
Thank you! Hartt is on his list as well. Still trying to narrow down the list, just not sure how to ‘shrink it’ any further. We’ve looked at curriculum, location, size, and affordability. Going with curriculum seems to make the most sense. (S & I disagree on location & size of school, lol), so we’ve agreed that there are a couple of schools on the list no matter what. I’m hoping to get the list down to about 15 schools including a couple of safety schools. Hoping to visit some schools in 2018 to help rule schools in/out by doing so.
@lithpool - I wouldn’t read too much into the idea that western Connecticut hasn’t been mentioned here, there are so many schools…and only so many of us. I have learned about tons of schools here, and one enthusiastic poster is all it takes to raise a school’s profile
I am from CT and West Conn is definitely an up and comer in the MT world and worth a good, hard look. Beautiful new multi million dollar facility, and close enough to NYC for them to draw some great guest directors, instructors and lecturers. My D’s voice teacher (before she went off to college) teaches there. And a HUGE bargain if you’re a CT resident, as it’s a state school.
Thank you @CTDramaMom . I think the biggest problem for my S is that it’s too close to home! LOL
Wondering if anyone has even greater insight as to the program itself. My S likes the curriculum, as it has many diversities included that not all MT programs have.
Ha! Same problem for my D. She wanted out of state, bad. After her epic 24-hour journey via bus and train back to Pittsburgh this weekend thanks to weather and cancellations, she might be regretting that LOL. I know people in the West Conn program. PM me if you’d like me to try to put you in touch with them.
@CTDramaMom - Don’t think we’re quite ready (besides, I don’t want to push S too hard in that direction!). Where did your D end up? I’m guessing PPU or CMU, but perhaps there are others in Pitts I can’t think of off the top of my head.
PPU and she’s quite happy there, fortunately.
@CTDramaMom - That’s great! Thank you!
