lilyemery - although that’s irrelevant to the original post, i’d be very interested in knowing where you got that information. i could only find the 2010 statistics on [University of California](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu). =[

LilyEmery, did you get those info from collegeboard? Because the last time they updated those stats were September 2010.

[College Search - University of California: Riverside - UCR - At a Glance](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)
[College Search - University of California: Santa Cruz - UCSC - At a Glance](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Sorry if you guys saw my comment as irrelevant, it’s just what came to mind as I read this tread. I got SAT scores from UC websites and college board (they were basically the same) and GPA info from college board. Although college board hasn’t been updated for the class of 2015 I can’t imagine it would change drastically. I guess I was just trying to point out that it’s not just acceptance rate that shows how “good” a school is. A great school needs to be filled with great students. Then again you could argue that SAT/ACT scores don’t show intelligence. I’m just throwing information into the pot :)

I think it could drastically change because I’ve seen those before. Also, UCR went from 78% acceptance rate to 62% acceptance rate, whereas UCSC went from 64% acceptance rate to 67% acceptance rate. The acceptance rate for UCR drastically changed over the year, so I believe the stats for UCR will drastically change as well =P

I guess we will have to wait and see… I’m very curious as to where UCR will be in 10 years. I see great potential in the school, but with all the budget cuts that could be hindered.

good info to have. =P i wouldn’t be all that surprised if that info drastically changed, but idk… can’t wait to see.

imo, I think UCR will be considered a mid tier UC within 15 years along with davis, irvine, and sb. and obviously berkeley and la will still be at the top, and perhaps sd will join them. and i think merced will still be trying to catch up, and i think sc might not progress as fast as the rest and may be considered a lower tier uc, although obviously higher than merced.

UCR will be about the same 10 years from now, if you are talking ranking strictly.

The budget crisis will have the biggest influence on the university, more than anything else really. Since UCR doesn’t have an effective fund-raising arm, it relies heavily on the fed and state supports, and we all know how unreliable those supports are.

Sorry to burst your dream, but if you think UCR is just going to leapfrog other universities, you need to rethink again.

well, our acceptance rate just leapfrogged ucsc in the middle of this budget crisis. it won’t be as fast as it should be, but we’re not putting things completely on hold.

We didnt leapfrog ucsc, wait til u see the final numbers.

Plus, admit rate can be manipulated, placing too much stock on admit rate is just juvenile.

“Yay, our admit rate is lower than ucsc. Oh wait, avg SAT still 30 points lower. Nvm.”

I agree, acceptance rates are tricky. We will have to wait for the SAT/ACT/GPAs to come out. If the scores don’t go up much we may be able to attribute the sudden rise in acceptance rate to the stereotype of UCR as a backup school. People who are a more lower CSU level may apply to UCR b/c they think there’s a chance to get a UC education. An upswing in underqualified applicants will raise the acceptance rate; acceptance rate doesn’t mean prestige, though the two seem to correlate often.

well the point of this thread is that we’re a top research university, not that we’re better than ucsc. even if our sat/act/gpa averages aren’t higher than ucsc, we can be good and ucsc can be good at the same time. =P

I agree both can be great. In fact, we already are.

I just wanted to provide a perspective since people on this board tend to focus inwardly and not seeing what’s happening at other institutions.
