Wearing the same clothes for days in a row

I never understood why many people change an outfit every day when they’re only going to class (excluding the reasons of exercise and sweat)

I’ve gone to a school with uniform my entire life, so I’m a bit nervous for what to wear to college class.

Is it ok if I wear the same outfit for say, 2-3 days?
Will people think I’m a dirty, unwashed, smelly slob or something if I don’t look like it?

Pants are probably okay to rewear several times (maybe not in a row). Shirts, people will notice. You’ll be doing your own laundry – just do loads more often.

As long as you and your clothes don’t smell like it either…

Realistically, most people can get away with wearing outer layers (e.g. outer jackets) more times between washings than inner layers, since the inner layers collect more of the sweat and skin oils.

It is not that unusual for people (usually guys) to have a wardrobe with several copies of the same or very similar clothes, though.

Your peers may think it’s unusual to show up in the same exact clothes. Even if it’s the just the style you’re repeating (eg, white tee and jeans,) after a while they wonder and project and maybe react. Human nature. Just spare yourself the exact same clothes daily. Have a few different tees or shirts. How hard is that?

Do you wear the same clothes all weekend? Or for several days during school breaks? Surely you’ve had some experience picking out your own clothes even though you wore uniforms to school. You don’t need a large wardrobe, just a few basics to change around. A few different tops and bottoms to alternate is fine and not difficult to manage.

There were a few students in my some of my classes that wore practically the same outfit everyday and people definitely noticed - one guy in particular wore the same exact blue logo t-shirt and jeans every single MWF all semester. No one hassled him about it, but it definitely came up in conversation when he wasn’t around (we often referred to him as “blue shirt” since no one knew his name.)**

You can get away with wearing the same pair of jean a couple of times in a row since plain old jeans with no weird embellishments don’t really stick out and a lot of people own multiple pairs of jeans that look very similar in wash and cut.

**To clarify, this wasn’t malicious gossiping or anything - it was more along the lines of “do you remember what the professor said to blue shirt when he asked about project extensions?” - that sort of thing.

I don’t care what other people think about my wardrobe, but my clothes seem icky after I’ve worn them (especially if I’ve gone outside or walked around at all) and I wouldn’t want to wear something twice without washing it.

Yes people will notice. My best friend had many pairs of the same jeans and t-shirts and he used to just wear those everyday. People used to call him “blue [name]” because his roommate had the same name. Fortunately, he’s a nice enough guy that he was never ridiculed for it.

In the end, few people will be harsh, but most won’t. However, I can almost guarantee you that people will notice and comment(in the way preamble mentioned). But keep a small variety (4-5 days worth) of different shirts and pants and you should be all set.

I wear shorts/pants at least 2-3 times before washing them (but never the same one in a row, I switch it up)
1 shirt < 24 hours, that’s my rule. I also don’t wear my outside clothes to sleep.

Go to H&M and buy a $10 T-shirt for every day of the week and you have a basic wardrobe right there (assuming you wash your clothes every week)

I would agree with the above posters. Repeating jeans or basic pants is perfectly normal. Second day jeans are also gloriously comfortable. Nobody really notices what you wear for bottoms unless they are particularly interesting. Shirts you may be able to repeat two days in a row if you don’t have the same class two days in a row, but personally I find shirts seem really dirty and feel weird if worn for more than one day. Usually repeating clothes goes unnoticed unless you dress really flamboyantly.

Rotate shirts at least. To help me remember, I arrange my drawers such that I have the last worn on the bottom, and the next to wear on top. In the closet, I work from the left to right, stuff just worn goes on the right and I take from the left.

If you meant buying several copies of the same thing, and changing your shirt every day, that would be fine. It might get you ribbed a bit though “the one who wears a blue shirt all the time,” even if it is always clean.

And if you play rec sports or something, many people have only a few things they would wear for that, so repeating is more expected (after washing hopefully).

I suggest you don’t do that unless you want to be known as ‘blueshirt’, ‘pigpen’ , ‘stinky’ etc. If you aren’t sure if they are clean, then change if the slightest doubt. Pants are less a problem for one day if you change the shirt. Otherwise at least skip a day before rewearing something once. it just isn’t socially acceptable. Perhaps it will give people the impression you don’t bathe/aren’t clean.

I would’t wear the same exact clothes for days in a row. Mostly because of sweating and stuff. You don’t want to smell bad! (And people may notice and talk about you.)

But I do wear the same pair of jeans about 2-3x a week. -No one really notices jeans. And a lot of the time I wear the same hoodie/cardigan days in a row. I do think you can get away with wearing the same outerwear multiple times a week. But if I were you I would try not to wear the same shirts multiple times a week just.

I think people will notice if you wear the same top/dress days in a row.

No. People will notice. While it is OK to wear jeans more than once (unless they get dirty) as people have said, you should wear a clean shirt everyday. It is fine to wear jackets and hoodies and wash as needed.

I am not a fashionable person, but I think it is a good idea to develop a sense of style. Clothes are fun. Look at Pinterest. Go to thrift stores and buy some neat jackets and shirts. My son buys all of his expensive brand jeans at Goodwill for $9.99. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look put together and feel good about your appearance.

In terms of style, it is generally not acceptable to wear the EXACT same outfit twice in one week. Repeating jeans? Yes. Same shirt? Probably not. As @txstella said, it is more about looking put-together.
On the cleanliness factor, however, there are two groups, and you can usually separate them by climate type.
People who live in warm climates will immediately tell you NOOOO! Don’t wear clothes over and over! They will be gross and sweaty! You will smell and people will call you names!
People who live where the temperature dips below freezing will be more open to clothing repetition, because (1) you usually wear several layers, (2) you only sweat enough to soil the innermost layer, which you usually can’t see anyway, (3) you wear wool, which needs to be dry cleaned, and (4) winter clothes are expensive, so you usually have one of each thing you need, so you can’t not repeat. If you are in a cold climate, get a bunch of scarves and hats that you can mix and match.

if you don’t know what to wear, then just have 7 shirts and cycle through them. You can rewear jeans.

Wow lol… I definitely have the clothing policy drilled into my head after reading all the replies. Those coughhighcough standards. Aha… I seem so naive. This explains A LOT… I learned something today.

Is it fine to always wear the same pajamas? Or should I get another set

edit: (I’m sorry I’m so stupid. This stuff just never concerned me until now) ;__;
then, wearing the same shoes should be fine right?
and an awkward question for girls: How many pairs of bras and how often wash…?

I’ll miss my uniform.

I think wearing the same shoes is totally fine. Where would you store ninety pair of shoes in a tiny dorm room?
As for PJs, I feel kind of gross if I wear the same pajamas more than about three or four days, but as long as they are decent and don’t smell, nobody cares. Have about three or four sets that you would be comfortable with a guy seeing you in.
You will not need a lot of bras, maybe 3 or 4 normal ones and a sport bra or two. Wash after two or three wears. Also, air dry by hanging instead of using a dryer. They will last five times longer.

Shoes I will wear every day until they fall apart, haha.
Pajamas: I wear them for a few days or until they are gross, whichever comes first.
Bras: I don’t rewear them without washing unless I am out of options.

I wear something different everyday
