Hey, I'm looking at UMich very closely to possibly apply there, and I was wondering how cold the weather up there gets? Are there ever days for shorts/tshirts come spring semester? I'd just like a general feel for how it is up there because, as stupid as it may sound, location and climate will play a part in where I end up going. thanks.

it doesnt get too cold here in ann arbor (ann arbor is not too high up in michigan), and shorts/tshirts do come out during the spring. Weather is extremely wierd though. It'll suddenly rain without clouds, and there is often lightning and thunder.. without rain. Its just weird, you have to live here to understand. It gets pretty hot in the summer but not blazing, and it gets pretty cold in the winter but not artic freezing. Winter is kindof long, but after winter are the beautiful days of spring. Spring here is gorgeous.

NYJets, Michigan gets really cold in December, January and February. Even in those months, you get days when the weather rises over 50 or 60 degrees.

October and November as well as March and April are also cold, but mixed in are many pleasant and reasonable days (50-70 degrees).

May-September are gorgeous.

In short, you have three bad months.

lol, 3 bad months? I've lived in Michigan all my life and I would say there are more like 6 bad months.

ann arbor is more like 3. if you go up 50 miles + it gets terrible for some reason.

Living around here my whole life, the "three months of bad weather" concept is ridiculous. You are going to have long periods of bad weather from the November to March. You will get some breaks between, but for the most part it is cold and it isn't strange to not see the sun more than once or twice a week.

There are many pleasant days in April, September October, but not a ton of them in March.

j89 - It doesn't rain without clouds!

But yeah so far in my first semester - the weather from December through March will for the most part be sub 50 ( mind you this means it goes down below 20 regularly). November and April are the transition months with most of the weather still being cold but you have some excellent days in between, specially in April when you're coming out of the awful cold.

Spring is brilliant.

It does snow when the sun shines brightly though...hmm...

dsmo is correct.

Here's a nice page that has weather on it. I would say from living here 20+ years that May-September is nice, the rest I can do without.
