I think that I would prefer highs in the 20s over smog.

sure it is...a friend from new england says ithaca is colder...

i wonder how it would compare to the weather in toronto
because it's cold here, but it's not unbearable.
but i loveee winterr!

How is Albany, NY weather compared to Ithaca? Less precipitation and same temperatures? Because I'd rather have more snow and the same cold temperatures than less snow, since Albany looks disgusting after it hasn't snowed for a while: all the snow on the ground becomes black/yellow (haha) and it's just dismal.

Definitely much warmer than Toronto.

uhm, this is an old thread but it makes me want to die (exaggerating). i live in arizona. I LIVE IN ARIZONA! im used to being cold when its like 70. I HATE WEARING SHOES! seriously, i was branching out when i started wearing flats in addition to my daily flip flops. yesterday i went to buy “walking shoes” for when i visit cornell for diversity weekend, and they literally have holes in them (i think theyre biker shoes. theyre like this: [SKECHERS Official Shoe Store | Women’s | Bikers - Itgirl](http://www.skechers.com/shoes-and-clothing/women/styles/casual_shoes/product/bikers_-_itgirl/wht/) ). my feet are going to freeze off. i dont wear hats. i didnt even think of hats when i thought of snow gear. i hate layering. someone said a parka. WHO HAS TO WEAR A PARKA!? i dont watn to have to wear a parka. i couldnt even think of anywhere i would go and buy a parka in arizona. i originally didnt care about the weather in ithaca. i knew it was freezing cold, i thoguht i could handle it. this thread makes me think UHM NO, I CANNOT HANDLE IT. lol

Yeah. cornell winter is goign to be FUN!!

Don’t worry so much about it. I am from florida and had never seen snow before I got here. It is rough, but bearable, and certainly not bad enough to make me regret coming here. The really bad days (single digits) are horrible, but they are not that common. You will survive.

I think you adapt pretty quickly. I’m from San Diego, so when I’m at home for breaks I have to don a sweatshirt or something when it drops to 50-60 degrees. Here, I wear a t-shirt. Kinda weird how it all works.

Just get yourself a good, warm jacket that’ll last you four years and you’re set.

THis thread is really old 2 years, but i just wanted to say that i am going to Apply cornell from nor cal in a city that highs are 110 and lows are 55. It still provides an excellent education and thats why i am hopeing/praying that i get in. I wear a t shirt in 60 degree weather so wearing snow armor haha in 5 degre weather should be no problem… lol

With all the bad publicity Cornell gets regarding weather, I think it is only fair to point out they they have had 2 straight weeks of daytime highs of 72-80 without a cloud in the sky & cool comfortable nights. In fact on Slope Day this past Friday one had to go as far as Central Fla. (east of the Miss.) to find temps higher than in upstate NY, we were 15-20 degrees warmer than Atlanta!

Thank you, csdad. Those of us in Southern California, who have sons and daughters off to Cornell as freshmen in the Fall, appreciate you bringing this to our attention!

The weather will be a new experience for kids coming from California. In California you have to go to snow. In New York snow comes to you.

Also I would like to add that Ithaca has it’s own unique type of precipitation that goes from December-March. It’s a cross between rain, sleet, and hail. So be prepared for a lot of wet stuff falling on your head.

Oh, and your shoes will be destroyed from all the hills, so get something with a good sole.
