I've heard some students say that NYU's biggest downfall is the NYC weather. Living in California all my life, I actually think it might be nice to see seasons for a change. :P So what do you guys think? Is seasonal weather overrated/unpleasant once you get to NYU or does it actually have its benefits? Of course, this isn't a huge factor to me, but I'd like to consider it if I am deciding between say a California school and NYU. Thanks! :D

Get used to the wind tunnel effect in the winter, where the cold wind is funneled between buildings and it feels colder.

right now it’s beautiful. low to mid 70s, feels great!

Do you guys experience the traditional, colorful, beautiful autumns? :D

I love northeastern weather; 4 seasons, the way it’s supposed to be. In the autumn, the trees change color and Washington Square is littered with red and yellow leaves. In the winter, we usually get decent snow - the city is beautiful when it first starts snowing, and there’s a light blanket of snow all over - after a while it turns brown and it piled up on the side of the road and looks gross. It’s also harder to get to class sometimes in thick snow, but I guess classes are cancelled if it’s really bad. It’s pretty in spring and summer, of course, especially now that the parks open.

If you’re from a warmer climate, it’ll be an adjustment. between november and march you have to dress in layers! it’s often really warm inside the buildings

Yeah, it’s cold in winter, hot in summer, and somewhere in between during fall and spring. This isn’t a ‘downfall’, it’s the beauty of being able to experience all four seasons.

There is nothing better than autumn in New york and the winter season, especially Christmas time in NYC. Plus all those delicious cold weather spice pumpkin lattes, chai lattes, hot apple cider, smelling someones fireplace burning wood and having classes cancelled because of weather.

That’s what I thought; I thought it would be a benefit, not a downfall, though some say they would greatly prefer California weather (which obviously also has its benefits :P). But after living in Cali all my life, I think I might really like experiencing all four seasons. ^_^

So, what is the spring like in NYC? Green and flowery like Cali? And summer? Just as hot as Cali or cooler?

Spring is lush, green after the April showers, farmers markets, and summer can get downright hot and humid.

That sounds perfect since I’ll probably go home for the summer (and part of the winter, part of spring) anyway but will still be able to experience all the seasons as they are in NYC too. I’m getting more and more excited about NYU every day! Any more replies about specific elements of NYC weather that people like would be welcome too!

No, we don’t have colored seasons, just high-rise buildings, overcrowded and popluted public transportation, and taxi-cabs.

I’ve lived near the city my entire life and work there. Though the seasonal weather is nice, be warned about the humidity. It’s year-round pretty much except during the winter. This summer has been a bit of an exception actually, but most of the time it’s REALLY humid. When I go outside of the tri-state area I feel like I can breathe more, especially in California.

Also - In the winter, I recommend you wear boots outside and change into nice shoes inside because a New York winter can ruin good heels. d=
