Webster at Unifieds

I got my audition confirmation today for the NYC Unifieds at 12:00 on Feb. 3 and it said that my audition will last about a half hour. I’m just curious as to what takes a half hour if there’s no dance audition?

Thanks for the help!

At D's audition (regional site, 2 years ago) she was asked questions about her monologues, characters, given direction to present one in a different way; sang the cuts of her songs, sang a cut the auditor/accompanist chose; was vocalized to show her complete range and was interviewed. It was the most thorough audition she had, I really felt like there was in interest in the type of person she is; took about 20 minutes, as I recall.

My D had the same experience. She was also asked to do a tap step or two and some ballet turns.

My D is in the process of looking realistically at her long list and cutting it down to make it possible to do her auditions effectively. As a dancer, she is wondering if it is necessary to audition at Webster where there is a dance audition or can she do the NY unifieds where dance is not included? Would it be strongly recommended to go to St. Louis or is there some other way to let them know of her dance skills (or do they not matter?) Any advice would be helpful...

You will find the New York Unified audition to be a complete audition in terms of acceptance for the MT program. We should be able to tell through your resume of the skills for Dance. You are placed in the Dance Techniques for the program based on your skills demonstrated during the first class sections. It is important to us the students have strong text comprehension and we discover that through the audition and music presentations. We do encourage you to come to campus if possible, but you will not be hindered through the Unifieds.

Our D auditioned at the Unifieds (she is currently a Junior at Webster). They did ask about her dance skills at the time and even asked her to do some dance. That was under a different head of Musical Theatre but I am sure Lara Teeter is very on top of evaluating dance talent at the Unifieds. Good luck with your decision and let me know if there are any questions I can answer from a parent perspecitve!

Repster 411...My D got her academic acceptance letter last week. (They were very quick and efficient in their admission process.) She also received a notice that confirmed her audition date at Unifieds. In the interest of scheduling do you know if it is possible to call and request an afternoon time slot? She felt it was OK to schedule 2 auditions that day knowing that Webster is a short audition. Also, is there any opportunity to display dance training since there is no dance audition. Would it make any sense to bring a dance tape to add to her file? Thanks...

Pohsmom -
Yes, it is absolutely possible to call and ask for a specific time slot at Unifieds; should be no problem this early on. Call 314-968-7001, and talk to Jennifer. She'll take care of you. I don't believe there is an opportunity to display dance proficiency at Unifieds because the rooms we use are carpeted. I will check and make sure, but I think this is the case. Definitely bring a dance tape to the audition if you would like. The faculty will look it, and have it be part of her audition file.

My D is in her freshman year at Webster and loving every minute of it. Although they did discuss dance with her at the audition, she didn't actually demonstrate her skills in that area. There is a BFA in Dance at Webster so many opportunities for our triple threats to be strong in all areas.

Hi SEATA!
I think I got to meet your D last month when I was visiting my D. I met her at an ET (unless there is another Freshman girl from California).

If the girl you met was blonde, petite, and extremely perky, then I would have to say YES! My D's roommate is an acting major and also from Cali. My D's name is Audrey.

Yes, she is who I met. My D talks about her often because they have the Jr. Miss connection and my D is also blonde and perky. She looked like she was doing well and having fun. She and my D seem very similar.
