Webster BFA program

ResrchMom—thanks for your rundown of your visit to Webster. Webster is one of four schools we have yet to hear from. If accepted artistically, a visit is likely, though I foresee school visitations being difficult to manage given that all four decisions will likely arrive within a few days. Thinking optimistically about them, of course.

Thanks ResrchMom. We are scheduled to visit Webster the first week in April. Of course, I’m hoping we have an answer before we set out for St. Louis. Does anyone know how they notify: email, calls, online (check status site)?

Ugadog: you said in another post that u received a financial packet. Had you received any other scholarship info previously? My son had received an scholarship when he was accepted academically, but then you and londream indicated that a financial packet was on the way to you. We haven’t seen anything like that, and there is no indication of financial aid on the online site. Maybe I need to call them??

Dramamama, we actually received a phone call about a week and a half ago saying the financial package was being mailed. The financial letter and another package (kind of mysterious) arrived on Saturday. Online I don’t see anything except the “Applaud” stage. I would think maybe a phone call is in order.

My daughter received her academic scholarship from them a long while back, but this week we received the financial aid letter, so it probably depends on when you got your FAFSA done.

They are deciding on the first year class next week. The head of the acting department asked my D if she would like an email right away because the letter will take longer to arrive, and she said, yes! So, if you need to know, especially with travel plans, or you simply want to know by email right away, I’d just have your daughter give them a call or email and let them know. They seem to be very flexible.

I’ll have him call on Monday, since I did my fasfa back in January. Thanks!

Seems strange to me. The decisions were to made by a posting on their web site as Ugadog mentioned. Why would an email be any faster than that? Still, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to call. Thanks, ResrchMom, for the information.

I will not be a very happy parent if we trek all the way to St. Louis on the week decisions are released to come home to a no. Now, if it were earlier in the process, that’s fine, but the week of decisions? Not so much… I’m hoping it will appear on the “check status” site prior to our leaving Wednesday morning the 3rd. My luck…probably not.

The status online has been Applaud since November. We have received some nice scholarships and an acceptance would trigger a trip to visit. No sign of an FA package here. We filed our taxes fairly early. Maybe I should call if it’s not in the mail today. Ugh.

The way these schools operate is a mystery to me. Some receive their financial packages, others don’t, some see results online, others get a letter, and on and on. It just adds to the drama.

It also adds to the confusion, and it messes with people’s plans, and therefore, their lives.

I have never checked any online stuff for Webster, so I don’t know about that. But every time I’ve read a date for Webster decisions, it’s April 1. You should certainly know before you travel. :)

Two more bits of information:

1) My D called today and was told decisions would be mailed on April 1. On The Allied, some current Webster students say it is possible to find out decisions prior to April 1 through the online check status site.

2) If any of you are waiting on Financial Packages, make sure you submit Webster’s own form as well as FAFSA.

[Webster University 2013-14 Undergraduate Financial Aid Application](http://www2.webster.edu/finaid/forms/ugApp2013-14/)

Thanks for that application. Here’s another quirky thing. My son received an email from his auditor saying he hopes he was doing well and that he was making sure that he was still interested in Webster and in being considered for their program. Odd to anyone else?? He replied that he was.

No, it’s not odd. I think they want to know before they spend a bunch of time debating on whether to invite someone into the program–especially this late in the game when the students might have already decided on a different program. I’ve heard that this is typical of Webster. It’s a very good sign. That’s not to say that it’s a bad sign not to get an email. I’ve read on past forums that some are invited who have not been contacted by email, too.

I was thinking the same thing. But then again, I was thinking maybe we didn’t receive a financial aid pkg because they were not considering him. Which would also make sense - why go through that work on someone you are not going to admit. Alas, we will know soon enough. Even though it seems like FOREVER!!!

Yes, I have read that receiving the email is a very good sign! We didn’t get one, but that could be because we scheduled the visit for the week that acceptances go out. I guess that shows them that Webster is very much still in the running for us. (At least, I’m telling myself that’s why we didn’t get the email!)

Here’s a little more info that we found out when we visited with the head of the acting department, Bruce. The BFA acting and musical theatre take all of their classes together. There are around 25 students in the program–half MT, half straight acting. There are about 1/2 of all of them in a class and the next semester they mix it up so they’re working with others from their 25 person ensemble. So, over the four years they’re working with everyone in the program, but not all 25 at a time.

The students go in for auditions and they are cast for what ever is coming up–some will be cast in the musical or play, some will be cast even in St. Louis Repertory theatre’s show. So they actually are working with a professional theatre on campus.

And for electives, straight actors can take dance and private voice. There’s only a small difference between the MT and straight acting curriculum. It’s really one company with two emphases. They progress through a sequential program for four years, so no one can go off on their own to do a study-abroad program. Study abroad for them happens in the summer if they choose it.

Hopefully I haven’t made any mistakes. This is the way I understood it. Maybe someone else has something to add or clarify.

I am about to lose my mind!! I know some decisions are going out for Acting/MT, but what about tech??? There are never any tech people around here. I think I need to scream!!!

My son applied for Webster’s Directing program and received an email this morning congradulating him on his acceptance. The email stated that they will be sending more information in the mail. I believe Webster is notifying throughout this week. I do feel for you ugadog99, no one posts about the Directing tracks either!
