Webster hall?

Just looking for info like did you like living there, are you going to be living there, pros, cons, how easy is it to make friends, etc.

I wasn’t in Webster, but I was in Thoreau. It’s Cuarto, so you need to keep the suite layout in mind – meaning, if you want to meet people outside your suite, you’ll need to put more effort in than if you lived in traditional dorm style housing. Most people become friends with their suitemates, and if you’re okay with that there’s nothing wrong with it. But because of that you need to make it a point to go to other people’s suites and hang out with other people in general, because it’s so easy to just get holed up in your suite and almost forget there’s other suites on the floor.

Pros: More privacy
You’re only sharing a bathroom with a couple other people, not with a whole floor. They even clean it for you every two weeks now, instead of you having to clean it yourself!
[My opinion: Best DC]
Pools in two of the buildings in Cuarto, Webster being one of them
You have a nice living room, useful for bringing friends over, generally hanging out, and/or vacating to if your roommate is sleeping and you’re still up

Cons: Tends to be less connected than other housing areas because people mainly hang out with their suitemates (in other words, stereotypically “antisocial”)
Slightly far compared to the other housing areas. Add a few minutes to your biking/walking time or plan to use Unitrans.
If you don’t get along with your suitemates, it’s more of an effort to make other friends on the floor, again because of the suite layout

I personally loved Cuarto. I’m an introvert and need the option of just ducking away from the chaos at times, so to speak. That’s easy to do in Cuarto. At the same time, I was one of the oddities in that I was only really good friends with one suitemate (suite of ten), and most of my freshman friends were either in other suites or other housing areas. I don’t know if this is anyone else’s experience, but it’s also kind of funny some people’s reactions to saying you’re in Cuarto: Throughout the year, people would be shocked when I said that and ask about it as if it’s some strange foreign land. Which I guess it is comparatively, haha.

I lived in Webster (Room 102)! I really liked living in Webster–it’s smaller than Thoreau and Emerson in terms of building size, but I liked it. RAs in Cuarto will tend to host get togethers and fun activities to try to get floors to hang out with each other because Cuarto tends to be less social than other residence areas, and depending on how they do, they may either succeed or not succeed (my RA succeeded in getting my entire floor to get together. The RAs on the 2nd and 3rd floor…not so much).

In terms of distance, well…Cuarto and Segundo are only separated by a block. It’s only a short bike ride to get from Cuarto to the ARC, though (less than 10 minutes), and if you’re into baseball/softball, there’s a baseball/softball field on the way towards the ARC.

(despite what PhantomVirgo said, they’ve always had it so that the cleaning people come in every 2 weeks to clean your bathroom).

From my understanding, the bathroom cleaning only started around 2010 or so. Or at least, there was a 5th year RA last year talking about how she had to clean her bathroom as a freshman. Either way, they currently clean it for you so that’s one less thing to worry about.

Oh, miscellaneous tip: You might want to be careful about the underground parking area under Thoreau. For one, there’s some areas where water leaks from the ceilings and might damage your bike; there’s signs posted in the worst areas, but some others get the occasional water leak (not nearly as bad as the marked areas). For another, at least in my experience thieves are more likely to try for a bike in the garage than outside, presumably because there’s fewer potential witnesses at any given time down there. Of course, if you lock your bike properly it’s generally not an issue. It’s surprising how many people don’t.

Thank you for the suggestionsb info! :D
