Week before freshman year starts

I heard that that there’s a special culture volunteer week the week before school starts? Freshmans can get to know other students and get used to the campus before all school actually begin…does anyone know any details about this?

It's called FYSOP. About 400 freshman move in a week early (to your permanent dorm room) and working on community service projects in different service areas (ex. the elderly, children, the homeless...). Everyone that I know that did it loved it.

There's more information about it here:

ooh thanks you so much! i'll definitely look into that!

yeah I've heard sooo many good things about fysop. Unfortunately my family couldn't afford to pay for me to do volunteer work.

There's also alternative spring break, which I think is now pretty common at schools generally. You pay a little and get carted off to do some good thing, from home building to clearing invasive plants. It's part work / part play / part do-gooder stuff.

why does it say 2007 on the site? will they put up a new application soon? i really want to do it. Also, what kind of applicants do they accept? is it just random freshman who seem interested?

I believe that they don't even discuss FYSOP until your freshman orientation.... it's way too early to be signing up right now.

oh ok, thanks annzie.

yeah I'm sure they don't run out of spots all that quickly if at all. but it is popular
