FYSOP- and advice to Freshman

Do FYSOP if you are worried about transitioning to college. You go up a week early and are in small groups for community service and social events. It helps with making friends and with the transition. You move in early and get established in your dorm. The upperclassmen are helpful with tips about classes and things to do.
Attend the movie on the beach in early Sept. and check out concerts both on and off campus. There are clubs nearby and the GSU Lounge is cool too. When your parents drop you off and you need to have one last meal with them go to Newberry St, 5 min. T ride, for great outdoor scenes and of course Quincy Market.

My S did FYSOP, mostly because of the early move-in perk; it was OK, but not as great as he expected. However, he did get to choose which bed and side of the room he wanted!

Kinshasa, thats actually the first time I ever heard someone say FYSOP wasn't one of the best weeks of college. Everyone I knew applied to be on staff next year, because they loved it so much. We always joke that the FYSOP kids are like a cult. People never stop talking about how wonderful it is. Do you know why your S didn't have a great experience? Not that I doubt his opinion, I was just wondering, because people ask me questions about it a lot.

All I know is he didn't rave about it. Knowing him, he probably was frustrated because they didn't spend as much time actively DOING as he thought they should have. I think there were a few day sessions where the kids sat and listened to speakers.

so when do you sign up for FYSOP because from what ive heard it seems like a great program (according to the discussions at the open house) and how much does it cost?

Applications will be on the BU website starting June 1. The program costs $350, but scholarships are available in cases of financial need.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it... anyone else?

I definitely want to do it. :)

Of course :).

yeah im seriously considering doing it.. im all about leaving the house a week earlier! lol

Yeah, I'm def doing it.

peppercody: My thoughts exactly. :)

how many ppl get into it?? and what does FYSOP stand for?

Ooh! This sounds like so much fun. I'm in. :)

The FYSOP kids get a chance to be in a smaller group so its easier to make friends. They learn their way around campus and Boston. I wish I went last year but I had wanted to spend that week with my friends at home but it turned out most of them went to colleges that started earlier than BU so they were not here after all.

FYSOP is rolling admission so get your application in as soon as possible.

i really want to do it!
