Fysop

I know the page hasn’t been updated for the 2007/2008 year yet, but is anyone else planning on doing this?
Are there any students who did it before and would like to share experiences?

Def. doing FYSOP. Someone made a thread on the Facebook page.

Wait, it's a volunteer program for which you have to pay to be in?

-The Paying coot66

Makes a lot of sense eh coot?

wow, i was totally going to do this
but now it sounds kind of ridiculous now that i think about it
we're paying them to help OTHERS...

I did it last year (HIV/AIDS) and had a fantastic experience. It's a good opportunity to move in before the campus is crowded with students and parents and gives you time to get acclimated to the campus before classes start. If you are interested in doing community service during the school year, this is a good way to learn about some of the other programs offered. The fee covers an extra week of food and housing, as well as paying for transportation to and from volunteer sites. Definitely do FYSOP if you can!

Most people say it's a great experience.

I'm still skeptical. I'm sure that students willing to do community service will find plenty of opportunities to do so without paying for a special program...

It probably is a great experience, but I'd rather save my $350, use it for tuition, volunteer at a soup kitchen (or something), and feel just as good.

-The Skeptical Coot66

My S did FYSOP a few years ago, mostly so he could move in early. He didn't rave about it.
