Weekend art classes--which one should I attend?

I'm looking into two weekend art programs in New York:
<a href="http://www.sva.edu/continuing-education/fine-arts/painting">http://www.sva.edu/continuing-education/fine-arts/painting</a>
<a href="http://www.nyaa.edu/nyaa/ce/spring2014.html#saturday">http://www.nyaa.edu/nyaa/ce/spring2014.html#saturday</a></p>

I am a current high school junior, and I want to develop a portfolio for college. I've been doing art since grade school, but I stopped doing art last year because of my school work. I want to attend a program to get back on track. My forte is cast drawing, however I really want to learn painting. Is this too late to start learning painting to develop a portfolio for college? I am debating whether to continue cast drawing at NYAA, or start taking a painting class at one or the other.

Do you know either of these programs? Suggestions on which program and which art class to take? Suggestions on developing an art portfolio for college?

Side note: I won't be applying for art schools for college. I'll be applying to regular 4 year universities and I'm shooting for Ivies (not that that's relevant).

Do you intend to become an artist? RISD is near Brown and you can take classes at Brown as a student at RISD. I think the opposite is true also. Either way, for a 4 year liberal art college, you could continue with cast drawing. For an art school I think a portfolio with some diversity is better so in that case I would take up painting but to keep your cast drawing skills sharp as well. Don’t sacrifice your passion to gain a new skill just for a portfolio.

Also look at Pratt, FIT and NYU pre-college. NYU may gave some free classes for tri state residents.

@Madaboutx‌ Sorry for the belated reply. I do not intend to become an artist; I do art purely as a hobby. Thanks for telling me about RISD and Brown, I never knew that you could take classes at both! Also thank you for your advice! I will most likely start painting classes in the spring. @uskoolfish‌ Thanks, I’ve looked into all–I couldn’t find the free classes for tristate residents?

I would contact them directly and see who it is open to.

@uskoolfish‌ This is an amazing program!! How did you know about this? I just signed up and hopefully I will be able to attend their classes in the spring. Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it!

@AngEverlasting D is a BFA student in studio art at NYU. She is going to be applying for her MA in art education, so I was on the website looking around for info  Also, did you notice the pre-college summer art intensive? D did that program in 2011. They haven’t done it for a few years because of on-going renovations to the Barney Building during the summer months, but now it’s being offered again in a slightly revised format. It was an outstanding program, even if you don’t want to become an art major.
