Hello all, This is our first post so please bear with us. We took (dragged) our son to see eight colleges over school vacation. While he was not thrilled we all came away with some schools that will be high on his list of "want to attend". The tours were great but our schedule did not allow enough time to get a feel for weekend life. Not necessarily party life...he does not want that...but the level of activities available for those who stay on campus and, whether or not enough students remain on campus during weekends so that there are enjoyable activities. If anyone can provide information regarding Champlain College (VT), Hartwick College (NY) , Long Island U, CW Post Campus (NY) or Hofstra (NY) we'd appreciate it. We don't want him to be stuck on weekends with very little to do plus a 6 hour ride home. Thank you.

Burlington, Vermont is a great college town/city. There is a lot to do for the students, both on campus and off campus. One of our children considered UVM very seriously, but she ended up at another school. My spouse and I enjoy going to Burlington just to walk around, shop, eat lunch down by the waterfront etc!

I live in Oneonta and teach at Hartwick College. The weekend life, I’m afraid, does center around going to the several downtown bars. However, I have had students who had other interests. Many of them end up living on the Pine Lake Environmental Campus–a beautiful area about 15 minutes from campus (there’s a shuttle). These students are generally into music, outdoors, environment, dancing, and so on. They form a pretty tight community. I hope this helps. I wish I could be more positive about the weekend scene. There is, of course, SUCO, up the street. Many activities on the weekend there, including poetry slams, theatre, music and so on.

Thank you for that info. It’ll be very helpful!
