We are excited about visiting Franklin and Marshall this fall with our daughter. One question I have is about weekend life there. Is it pretty much frat driven? Or are there other things on/off campus to do if/when the frat parties get old?

Various frat parties are thrown on the weekends, and there are always parties in the apartments on college row or in the lofts if you want to escape that basement scene. Yes, alcohol is always present, but there are absolutely people who go out and do not drink. I have always been a fan of partying, but honestly, I have just as much fun hanging out with friends in the dorm on a Saturday night just talking, goofing around, trying to get homework/laundry done, watching a movie, and hanging out with other friends when they get home from parties. The people here are wonderful, so as long as I surround myself with the people on my floor, I have an awesome time. It’s not a weird thing to not go out either, lots of people with lots of friends find various things to do rather than go out. Lancaster is a very interesting city. We have some great boutiques, art, and sometimes live music. First Fridays in Downtown Lancaster which happen on the first Friday of every month are great nights as well. There are new exhibitions, live music, and theatrical performances. There are also some great restaurants that are a nice walk from campus. Oftentimes the College Entertainment Committee will show movies in the main room of the houses. There is always something fun to do here, frat parties are not necessary to have great friends
