Weight for UF Legacy?

Anyone know how much weight is given in admission decision when one parent graduated from UF?

My son has 4.1w GPA, 1300sat, 3 varsity sports, national honor society, decent ECs helping underprivileged, parttime job at Winn Dixie, and Latino.

He got into ucf with scholarship. UF is our dream school.

Unfortunately legacy doesn’t count all that much. However your son’s scores are right in the wheelhouse for UF, slightly under on the GPA. Hopefully he wrote a great essay, that will count for a lot. Hope he makes it!

My older daughter got into UCF with Gold scholarship, had a parent that went to UF a 30 on the ACT, and a similar GPA and similar charitable background but was only offered innovation academy at UF. She ended up picking UCF. Not sure how much legacy helps. It’s tough to get in there. They love High GPA’s, IB and Leadership roles.

@Trixiet yes, UF has become extremely competitive since I went there. He has FSU as his 2nd choice but he really likes UCF too. We’ll see what happens, the waiting is tough!

@DadinOP yes it is! You are in the place we were two years ago - same three schools. My prediction is he will get in to FSU and also get a scholarship :). With FSU they tell you about your scholarship award when they notify you about admission. UF is a total unknown and requires an excrutiating wait. My younger daughter is also now waiting that same UF decision. Wish you luck!

@Trixiet thank you, good luck to you too! His younger sis will be going thru it too in a few years.

@Trixiet if your kid got IA thats because they applied to IA. You cannot get accepted to both and IA isnt a second option for kids who didnt make the summer/fall cut, IA is a specific program that you apply to so your child wasnt “only” offered IA, they chose IA.

@herosaurus17 Yeah, I thought IA was a special program for top students, to also graduate with a minor in innovation…

@AimingTop50 No one looks at you differently for doing IA. It is not for students who are better or worse its just a different program for those interested. The people I met over summer In IA love it but thats because theyre a better fit for the program.

@herosaurus17 You may be right… The acceptance rate to IA (36%) is only slightly lower than that of UF’s (38%)… I still think it would have overall a more impressive class as the students are more likely to be engaged.

Let’s just say it certainly is not a bad thing to be accepted into IA,especially since you decide whether you apply to it or not.

You really have to decide if you’re comfortable not doing a fall semester at UF if you want to do IA.

^ That’s why I decided against it.

@AimingTop50 Per UF admissions officers (and I asked) you can be offered both

Oops tagged the wrong person - sorry @AimingTop50.

@Trixiet It is possible to be offered both - it is also possible to be only offered IA.
