Weight Loss

Hi.
Well, the title of this thread pretty much says it all.
I'm having trouble doing this.
For the past month, I have been going to the gym every single day.
Each day, I spend atleast one hour doing cardio (treadmill, cycle, elliptical).
Two weeks ago, I started lifting weights as well.
But I haven't lost a pound.
Am I doing something wrong?
Should I stop this whole lifting weights thing?
I don't want to gain muscle.
I want to lose fat.
I need to lose 25 pounds before the end of this month.
What should I do?
-Jenny

ur are probably gaining muscle while losing fat, u should be less concerned about what the scale tells you, and think more about how you feel, and if it looks like you have gotten thinner, some people are just naturally built in a way that they can not lose weight easily. but if ur really concerned about the weight thing then stop lifting weights, and do more cardio stuff like swimming, biking, and running. i suggest going on long slow jogs as often as possible.

I'm not an expert on weight loss and diets (as my parents seem to think I've got eating problems), but I have learned a couple things from my health class this year:

Exercising is only half of it. You've got watch what you eat, but I don't mean that as in skipping two meals out of three. Your diet should be what people in your ideal weight range would eat. With the proper amount of proteins, carbs, etc. And once you reach your target weight, don't go back to your old eating habits. Otherwise you might be back at the starting point within a couple weeks.

Also, eat several small meals a day rather than the traditional three big meals. This has more to do with energy spikes in your body (so that your energy level doesn't fluctuate too wildly), but if you do, it's less likely when you don't eat, you'll stuff yourself.

you're NOT going to lose 25 pounds in a month (unless you do a Lindsay Lohan and go anorexic.. but I don't recommend that). A healthy weight loss is about 1-2 lbs a week. If someone I knew lost 25 in a month.. I'd be worried

As sf_student said, you're probably gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat). If you REALLY want to try to lose as much weight as possible, you're gonna have to exercise and eat right. I'm not an expert on food or anything, so you should probably go to a dietician.

Good luck! (btw, doesn't weightlifting hurt?!?)

weightlifting doesn't hurt lol... unless ur lifting way too much to handle... but it does make u sore....

take down your caloric intake. makes sense. you probably take in about 2000-2500 a day. lower it to around 1800 maybe...and drink so much water that you feel like dying.

You can still lift... but if you want it to help you trim... don't increase the weight as it gets easy.... increase reps. If you want to get bulkier.... then you can add weight. But I don't think that's your goal.

And trust me I know the feeling.

Alright here's what you do.

Shove your finger down your throat after each meal and barf out everything you just ate.

Hahah i'm j/k but if you're not afraid of doing damage to your body, that actually does make you lose weight.

If you are going the good, healthy route, do not expect 25 pounds in one month!! The most you can loose is 8 pounds a month. I have some suggestions for you. Please follow them and see if they help at all.
- On the tread mill, do 10 minutes of normal pace, 5 minutes of very fast pace, and then back to normal pace. And repeat.
- Drink a lot more water
- No more white bread! (after a while, if its not wheat or Ironkids, you'll feel like barfing. XD Wheat is very tasty!)
- Do not weight lift everyday, please! Do it every other day.

No, weight lifting doesn't hurt while you do it. I mean, your muscles get tired and you feel like stopping, but you get that way when you do other excercises, too. If you're a novice at lifting, you WILL feel the aches and pains in the morning. XD But if you're training for any sport, that pain is to be expected.

Does anyone know good ways to get slim legs. I've played soccer my whole life and they just bulk up which isn't what I want! Any suggestions? Would biking be good maybe, or jogging for longer distances?

All the people with skinny legs that I know are cross country runners... or anorexic

don't drink soda

I lost ten pounds a month counting calories.

Search google for "basal metabolism calculator" and calculate what your minimum calorie intake is a day. Then create an account on fitday.com and count your cals. I did this for three months and lost 30 lbs. You just have to stay dedicated to it, and if losing weight is important to you, you will.

"All the people with skinny legs that I know are cross country runners... or anorexic"

oh how right you are. I was both and now my legs are skinnier than most girls. that said i would like to say there are many safe ways to lose the weight and many dangerous ways. for me running and exercising with layers while at the same time eating a very low calorie diet works very well. on the dangerous side i completely stopped eating from both depression and to make weight for wrestling. yes you lose the weight but than you become an unhealthy person because you are depriving yourself of many neccessary things that help you get on through the day. people like me who starve themselves reach their goal of losing the weight but at the same time they dont realize that they are sacrificing their health and happiness. i just wanted to warn the desperate youth out there that its not the way to go. take it from me

Ive seen plenty of wrestlers lose 5-10 lbs a week by not eating and running miles and miles with sweats on... must be hellacious. im doing slimfast right now and Ive had to incorporate a lot of low-fat meat into my diet just so I don't pass out during volleyball.

Hi.
Thanks for all your advice.
I just created an account on fitday.com.
I hope it works.
I haven't really been watching my food much.
I didn't really want to make that sacrifice.
Food is one thing I can depend on.
That probably sounds stupid.
I thought exercising was enough.
But I guess I'll have to start watching what I eat.
Its really discouraging though, when what I've been doing isn't working.
I've given myself more time.
My more realistic goal is the middle of August.
It would have been nice to look good for prom and the summer.
Oh well.
I just feel really discouraged.
I keep telling myself, "No results today, no results tomorrow, but if I keep working at this, I'll have results some day."
I need to do this.
My self esteem needs me to do this.
Thanks for your help.

When people do exercise in lots of layers in an effort to lose weight, they're losing "water weight" through sweating, not actual fat.

Do interval training, which would be like a gentle jog, followed by an interval of all-out sprinting, coming back to the jog, and repeating this. Supposedly, this method burns more calories than staying at one pace the whole time.

Also, you could try cutting back on calories. Eat just a little bit less and exercise a bit more, so that you're burning more calories than you're eating. And no, do not try to lose 25 lbs in one month, it's not healthy.

Hi.
When you say "lots of layers", do you mean layers of clothes?
-Jenny

Yeah. Like a shirt and sweatsuit or something. I see lots of crazies doing it down here in Florida heat. And don't be discouraged..Im trying to lose about 25 pounds by August too. :(
