Weinberg or Communcations?

So I am considering applying ED to Northwestern.

Which college is "easier" to get into, Weinberg College or School of Communication? I am interested in both and just want to pick the one that gives me the best chance of acceptance. Thank you!

School of Comm.

It depends on what major you are thinking of for the School of Communication.

I should clarify I meant for Communications or RTVF. Obviously theater is something totally different.

Econ Major at Weinberg vs. Communications Studies at School of Communication

I didn’t take Micro-Macro AP but am involved in a lot of communications based groups… also got 99 average in “Basic Communications” as a freshman if that helps…

would I be competing with all of the theater students who apply ED to the school of communication? thanks.

My understanding…the restrictive nature of the theater students (50 guys/50 girls) is within the SOC, but I do not believe it affects the applicants interested in the other divisions of SOC.

“would I be competing with all of the theater students who apply ED to the school of communication?”

No, definitely not.

The Theater applicants will be separated from Performance Studies will be separated from Communication Studies will be separated from RTF will be separated from Communication Disorders.

Comm Studies and RTF, remember, are relatively small admission groups, about 50-60 per year each. There’s no data comparing their selectivity from WCAS. The Comm school admits OVERALL have lower SAT scores than WCAS, but that’s no surprise given the significantly lower math stats for theater/performance kids whose strengths obviously lie elsewhere. Lower SAT scores notwithstanding, the admit rates in theater are actually likely much lower than most NU divisions. Lots of applicants, very competitive, talent rules the day.

WCAS vs. Comm Studies? Don’t think anyone can tell you with any certainty which would, in any given year, be a more or less competitive app. I would certainly advise against trying to put a square peg in a round hole. If there’s nothing in your background that suggests a genuine interest in Comm, you’re fooling yourself if you think you can fool the adcoms. Play to your strengths, don’t play to game the numbers.

thank you for all your help!

i have a lot in my background suggesting my interest in communications, including work with my schools news station, taking summer course on public speaking, being an active member of drama club… i also took a communications course in school.

it seems that applying to SOC would help me become a WildCat!

The Comm Studies major is really that small? 50-60 per year? Wow. I would have thought it was bigger.

The Communication Studies major has more than 60 majors. It is probably the most popular major in SoC.

RTVF and Theatre are the small, highly selective groups.

The numbers I gave were admission numbers. Off the SOC website, freshman (Class of 2014) admits came to:

Theater 101
RTF 62
Comm Studies 50

“The Communication Studies major has more than 60 majors. It is probably the most popular major in SoC.”

what does this mean?
