So, today, I received my acceptance letter in the mail, from NYU. While I was happy about being accepted, something seemed a little odd. The actual letter wasn't dated, and I never received the email. Also, it wasn't signed my the dean of admissions, but rather a person graduating this year. They told me that they were considering me for a program, but that program wasn't even mentioned in the letter. I have a feeling they missed sending me the original. Anybody else that had this?

That sounds very shady - I suggest you call them to find out what’s going on. How can a graduating student be authorized to send you an acceptance letter to a no-name program?

You wouldn’t have received simply a letter. It would’ve been the welcome packet, a gigantic purple thing with way more information than you need.

Good4college, please call the Admissions office on Monday find out what is going on.

I received the big acceptance packet some days ago (I got into CAS), and yesterday got that letter from some random girl in the class of 2011 I believe. So its possible it means you just didnt get your big acceptance packet yet. Call and see

tb, Right on. NYU has so many notifications they cannot always send them out simultaneously. good4college, It appears you are in.

It was like some people were invited to the admitted students’ reception? before the formal letters or emails of admission were received last year (the back door way some found out “early” they got in last year).

Do all the people above genuinely not realize that this is an April fools joke?

I’m ED and just got that letter today. I would still call and ask why you weren’t emailed, though.

Ok, thanks for the help. I messaged the girl it was signed by, and while she said it wasn’t an official letter of acceptance, the letter was sent out only to accepted students. She said to call the admissions place.

this is the exact same thing in the “letters in the mail” thread

yeah, the letter with the NYU sticker was sent out to all students who were accepted. Katie Sylvester, who signed the letter, is the NYU SSC/UCSL chairperson, so she isn’t just some random girl.

^^^ yeah, i contacted her.
