Weird interview at Andover

“Just look at my answer to @maddog15. A few things I just remembered. “Do you have any siblings? If so, what are they like?” “Boast any achievements/ honors to me right now.” “What other schools are you applying to?” There are no “trick questions” so don’t worry about that. Or at least, none from this guy. I heard once of an interview at Groton where they asked “If you were a shoe, what brand would you be?” That makes me nervous because I’m interviewing at Groton tomorrow.”

hahaha this made me laugh b/c my groton interviewer asked me what brand of sneakers I wear! maybe it was the same guy…

Hey, is there any way to delete this thread? I seriously think this was a bad idea to post and directly identifies me to the admission office. Seriously, this thing needs to be GONE.

Unfortunately, I think not. The only way a thread can get deleted is if it violates any rules- which I don’t think this does. You could always ask a moderator to delete it ,but it’s unlikely. The best thing now is just to not bump this thread so that it will be unnoticed :P. So NO MORE TALKING (lol).

My interview at Hotchkiss was exactly the same as ifax108’s. it was like a buzz quiz that you have to answer rapidly and he quickly asks the next question.

I also get some very short, terse, abridged email responses (one reply had ONE WORD) to my paragraphed email.

I tend to be better off deliberating an issue before i discuss it… which makes me nervous to pause and think during an interview. I don’t want to prepare the whole thing because they might think that I’m feigned.

SnapePotter – Remember that what seems like an eternity to you is nothing to the person you are talking to. A moment’s pause to think is a good thing. (Don’t say ‘ummm’ though. Only makes it noticeable.)

Role play with your mom or dad or sibling. Have them ask you questions like ‘what’s your favorite movie and why? What is your best memory?’ When you pause to think, ask them afterwards, ‘did that seem like a long time to you?’ Or you could record it and listen.

People hardly notice these little conversational pauses and giving more thoughtful answers is a benefit to you in an interview. I’m not talking 5 minutes, but ten seconds? Don’t sweat it.

should we try to be articulate? i mean abbreviations like 'cause come out easily.
Do interviewers not care about treating kids nice because we could bad-mouth them a lot amongst people if we want to.

Hey guys I don’t mean to break up your conversation, but can you guys continue it on this thread?

I was rejected at a school where I thought I had my best interview, and accepted at a school where I thought I had an okay interview

@ifax-The same thing happened to me at Andover too! PM me sometime, and we should compare who our interviewer was!

Bump! I like the weird interview stories :)

Please don’t bump this thread. I posted this when I was new to the application process and I think I overreacted by posting this thread. Also, since I posted this thread the day of my interview, this thread can be used to identify this account to me to the admission office.
