Hello,
So I got academic suspension. Hear me out. At my university, I have taken 89 credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.22 and have a 100% completion rate. Over the summer of 2018, I took two courses through a community college (since it’s close and the credits transfer over to my uni), and withdrew from one course (2 credits), and got an A from the other course (4 credits). That means in that community college, I completed 4/6 credits, which is a 66.67% completion rate and a 4.0. I got an email today saying because I don’t have a 67% completion rate, I am on academic suspension. I appealed it, but I am still worried this will transfer over to my school, even though at my uni, I have a 3.22 with 89 credits and a 100% completion rate. Combined with both schools, I have a 97% completion rate. Is there any chance this screws me over?
I really doubt it. It’s probably common for students at your 4 year to take CC classes over the summer and the drop rate is higher due to the demands of summer jobs. I’d relax.
I’m trying not to overthink it… But it’s hard not to worry. You’re spot on too, I was taking calculus while working 40+ hours a week and thought I could sneak in a 2 credit course, as I underestimated the amount of work a 2 credit course would take… Ended up withdrawing from it because I only had time for a calc class and my job… Anyways, it would seem crazy that the suspension sticks, but part of me is worried that the school will just look at the numbers from and I get screwed.
Do the counselors at the CC know that you are a visiting student there, or are you classified there as a degree candidate?
The worst thing that can happen if the suspension is not lifted, is that you won’t be able to take classes at the CC this summer. It might not be such a bad thing to have the summer off from academics!
The bigger issue is that you will have to supply this CC transcript to your college and any other college if you are applying to any graduate program.
You will have to answer honestly /truthfully if you have been academically suspended from any institution.
I’m just hoping it gets appealed… I talk to someone from the CC and they told me that I have a very good chance of getting appealed, so hopefully I don’t get super unlucky.
