@psywar‌ sorry to hear that your son did not get in. I was really hoping they both get in. Is there a waiting list. I am sure with his interest he will get into better programs

My son got accepted to U of Houston earlier this week and he is particularly interested in biochemistry and cancer drugs so this is a great fit being so close to MD Anderson ---- anyone else? Please kindly let us know; thanks much!

His stats are also excellent as the ones posted above but he is in IB but not AP. This Welch program does sound like a very prestigious program and a wonderful opportunity to research and make friends and we look forward to this 5-week camp. Thanks for all the good info. Blessings

Has anyone been officially waitlisted?

@ hearthhazel and rocket24 how do you secure internship in local universities. How do you approach them ? Could u please let us know of the steps would be very helpful to future applicants.

@tdoc20‌
Many universities have a formal application process for internships. Internships for high school students are usually during the summer, and applicants are admitted based on merit and availability. It’s not a guaranteed thing, but it’s worth a shot. I’d check with your local universities to see if they have internship programs set up already.

i just now checked my email, and saw that i got accepted to ut arlington! i’m so excited!

@nobodybutchu, Do you mind sharing your stats?

my stats are pretty mediocre compared to a lot of people.
SAT: 2230
GPA 3.95 unweighted
Rank: 1/730
EC/leadership: band(drum major), class vp, math and science team, latin club, academic decathlon
Essay: wrote about science bowl

my chem teacher must have written a really good recommendation because i honestly don’t have many achievements…

@ hearthazel , thanks will check with local universities in dallas

@tdoc20‌ I am taking a research class at my school, and we are required to complete a research project with a mentor. I emailed many university professors in my area and asked if I could participate in their research. It took a while, but I eventually got one to respond and agree.

@rocket24 thanks for the info. I am not sure if my school offers a research class around the sciences but I will try finding out if there are other ways , through which I could participate.
