Please join me in welcoming our newest College Rep, LauraR, from Northwestern University! Our short tally of Northwestern University visits shows that "nice" was the operative word for the NU staff, and we think you'll agree with that assessment when you interact with LauraR!

As a reminder, our College Reps are individuals that we have taken reasonable steps to verify as being from the school they represent. (If you find a CC member claiming to be an admissions person at a college and that member isn't flagged as a College Rep, please let us know so that we can verify his/her status.)

As an matter of courtesy to our College Reps (who have real jobs and are incredibly busy during the admissions season!), please don't post pleas for help naming the individual (e.g., "LauraR - Need Answer ASAP!!!" is what NOT to do - ask your question in a new thread with a clear and specific title, and you'll get input from CC members and, perhaps, from the resident College Rep if he/she has something to contribute.)

Please don't ask questions in this thread - start a new one with a relevant title.

Im new too. What's the chance of this being the 1st post i see after registering (ive been reading for a while, but only now registered), and my intending to apply a year later?

How cold does it REALLY get at NU in the winter?

I did the Discover NU program and it didn't seem like the kids were having all that much fun. Is there any spirit around that place or is everyone just working too hard to lighten up?

Is it harder to GET in to NU or is it harder (academically) to BE in NU?

"How cold does it REALLY get at NU in the winter?"

Not as cold as it gets windy, hardly ever in single digits, even 10-20 degrees is somewhat abnormal. It's the wind that's the worst, if anything.

"I did the Discover NU program and it didn't seem like the kids were having all that much fun. Is there any spirit around that place or is everyone just working too hard to lighten up?"

depends on who you hang out with, there are alot of kids here who party pretty hard

"Is it harder to GET in to NU or is it harder (academically) to BE in NU?"

probably about the same, i've heard it's not that difficult here but i beg to differ

are you glad you went there? or would you make a different choice if you could do it over again?
yeah i really didn't like my last school so glad i came, i wish i had applied to more transfer colleges though just so i could have gotten a better idea of where i stood and what my options were

what is your major, if you are comfortable saying?
declared psych but i'm considering changing it, but my "this school is pretty hard i think" comes from mostly gen-ed classes, i'm only taking one psych class

Is there a mix of kids, geographically, or are most from the Chicago area (i.e. cliques galore?)
nooo so many kids from california, new york, st. louis, boston, minneapolis, florida, everywhere. people come from everywhere. Chicago area might be individually the most represented region but overall it is a minority and they don't like 'hang out together' or anything. That being said i'm from the chicago area ha.

sorry for the dup posts up there. i didn't think they were going through.
I have a question I"d prefer to ask you directly. Is it possible to do that or is this my only way to ask? I could send give my email address if that is a good way.

How advantageous is it to apply E.D.? I keep heariing two schools of thought...the cream of the crop will apply E.D. so it's tougher to get in vs. Regular Decision, but because there are fewer applicants, you are more likely to get a real look over.
