bkb1958 - Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with the other schools' dual degree programs to comment on them in comparison to ours. I can tell you that at NU, you will be encouraged to grow as a musician, a scholar, and as a person, both in and outside the classroom.

I have a question for LauraR; do progress grades (quarter grades) need to be sent in if you’re applying early decision?

Welcome, LauraR !!

I am a Northwestern mom and I'd be happy to sit college fairs in our region to tout the advantages of NU. Our daughter chose NU and NU has been everything we expected and more.

Accept: Both ED and RD applicants are required to send semester grades with the midyear report.

Adrews5449: Thanks for your enthusiastic comments! For more information on how to volunteer, please visit http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/alumni/alumni.htm

monydad,

That may be one of the signs that suggest NU may not have allocated as much resource and manpower to recruiting as some of its competitors. NU is awfully slow and still hasn't posted its 2010 stats. It's only until recently NU started to give some aid to international students. I haven't heard they visited Hong Kong before while in 1995, WashU's chancellor personally went there to meet with students/prospies.

LauraR, can you please tell me if having National Merit Finalist status helps an application?

LurkNessMonster: We are always interested in the awards and designations of all our applicants. Northwestern participates in the National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship programs and awards money to students who qualify as a National Merit finalist and name Northwestern as the first-choice school.

Hi, LauraR. Welcome to CC. On the internet forums (such as this), you hear a lot about "hooks." I'm wondering if having publications on major science/medicine journals would count as a "hook."

thanks in advance

BingCold: We are always looking for qualities such as independent thinking, a sense of humor, self-confidence, energy, enthusiasm, and an interest in activities, people, and ideas. So, just as we are interested in awards and designations, we are also interested in research, publications, etc.

Thanks for your reply, Laura!

Laura
My son is very interested in learning new languages. He is a junior now. He knows 5 languages well. He will be taking Aps and and satlls to prove that he really is good at it. How do you view this? do you think that this could be something interesting or do you get many students with this ability?
He has never studied those languages abroad. Besides from enjoying learning these languages he thinks it will help him later in life. Thank you

I made another thread about this, but I suppose there's nowhere better to ask then here, so:

LauraR, I'm applying as an Industrial Engineer. I have taken the new SAT, the Math IIC SAT II and the Physics SAT II... is there a need for me to take more SAT IIs? Does having less SAT IIs than others decrease my chances?

LauraR
What % of students taking the 5 year dual degree program w/music actually graduate in 5 years?

LauraR, I have a quick question. What does being a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist who selected Northwestern means to the admission process? Does Northwestern typical accept most of the semifinalists?

Please note the text in the original post: Please don't ask questions in this thread - start a new one with a relevant title.

LauraR has assured me that anyone asking questions in this thread will be rejected immediately.

Well, that's not actually true, but PLEASE post your questions as new threads in the Northwestern forum. If LauraR is able to contribute, I'm sure she will. Thanks!
