Do you know when we receive notification for the scholars for medicine program?

Actually just got this info the other day via e-mail:

"Students are notified with a March letter that they have been sent on for review by the Med school, or not. They will then be notified within a week or two if they have been offered an interview or not, and final acceptance is FedExed out by the med school prior to April 1."

when do we receive notification for the honors college?

They're working on that now; probably mid-March as well.

I have two questions

1) In terms of financial aid, how generous is Stony Brook compared to other SUNY schools?

2) How strong is Stony Brook's atmospheric science program? I know Stony Brook is strong in the sciences, but I'm not sure if it's at the same level as UAlbany's

Andrew-

1) For last year: 58% received need-based aid (average $8,400), 34% received merit-based aid (average $2,638), and 44% received self-help aid (average $3,000). Since your total cost is more or less the same at all the SUNY schools, you'll qualify for the same need-based aid no matter where you go; scholarships would vary between schools based on your academic qualifications. Scholarships here at SBU start at a high school average around 90, and an SAT/ACT score of 1300/29.

2) I can't necessarily compare them, because I can't speak to their facilities or their requirements. Looking at the programs, though, they look similar; both programs are standard Bachelor of Science courses. Looks like Albany's focuses more exclusively on meteorology, where our program (http://atmos.msrc.sunysb.edu/npages/undergrad.html) allows you to do either meteorology or oceanic/marine sciences as they relate to the atmospheric sciences; it looks a little broader. There's a lot of comparable coursework, though. The other piece that we have is the Environmental Science piece, either the traditional program or our new program at our Southampton campus (http://www.stonybrook.edu/sb/southampton).

Hope this helps... any other questions, please let me know.

haha, sorry three more questions..

1) How's the atmosphere at Stony Brook, both on campus and off? What is there to do?

2) I put my admissions deposit at UAlbany but I'm starting to really consider Stony Brook, I still have till May 1st to put my admissions deposit at Stony Brook if I choose there right? Will they see I put my admissions deposit at UAlbany and rescind my admission?

3) How well does Stony Brook deal with those with mental illness and learning disabilities, who should I call to set up an appointment?

When do EOP applicants recieve thier enrollment letters?

1) Like many campuses, it really depends on you. If you want to sit in your room and not be active, you're guaranteed to be bored. But we do have almost 300 clubs, and sporting events and performances and shows almost every day, including weekends. So there's plenty to do; you just have to get off your butt and do it. Off campus, we're smack dab in the middle of suburbia, so you're five minutes from the mall, and shops, and stuff like that. We're also about 90 minutes by train from NYC.

2) Theoretically, you're only supposed to deposit one place; you do run the risk of losing your deposit if you don't follow the rules of the individual campuses. However, Albany won't know if you deposit here also, and vice versa; every SUNY campus is very independent when it comes to enrollment decisions.

3) You'd want to contact our Office of Disability Support Services at 631-632-6748; they can discuss any questions you might have about support services.

And illicitxmui - EOP applications are being reviewed now; if you haven't yet done so, make sure to follow up with your financial information. If you have questions about your file specifically, contact our office.

Would you consider a person with a 92.37 gpa (from one of the NYC specialized high schools) with a 35 ACT score for the honors college?

Consider? Yes, absolutely. But in the Honors College, there are no guarantees. They only admitted 9% of their applicants this year.

I’m a high school senior applying in December/January for Admissions to SBU, I’m worried i wont get in because my GPA is about a 3.5, I do tons of community service feeding the homeless on saturdays not out of having to go but because i want to help them. I am also a Dual-Language Student in my school, re-taking the SAT and ACT and an Italian Subject Test for my Linguistcs Major i want to follow. I just dont have confidence that my grades will be able to get accepted to the University. It has been my dream to pursue my language career at SBU and I just arent sure if i will get in.
