Welcome New Scripps Parents

Thank you, Eternal Icicle! Knew I could count on you!

Nemonyc, our daughter just finished her first year at Scripps. She came home last night on that JetBlue Burbank/JFK flight, having used the Supershuttle to get from campus to Burbank. We are in Fairfield County, and the JFK/Burbank route is usually our route of choice.
A couple of years ago, JetBlue used to fly from JFK directly to Ontario, but apparently no more. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Ontario into NY. She has also flown into LAX and taken the SuperShuttle to campus. She has not had a problem doing any of this. She has also done the train/bus combo to LAX, but with luggage, that is a more difficult trip. We were in FL for spring break, and she flew back into Long Beach (because it was the most convenient direct flight from our FL location at the time, and took the Supershuttle from there, too.
Your daughter is in for an amazing year!

Thank you so much. I called the SuperShuttle and curiously they quoted me $66 to Burbank and $44 to LAX, although they claim LAX is a longer trip. They also said for $99 you can get a van that holds up to 5 travelers w/ luggage and split the charge, but perhaps that is too complicated for the kids to coordinate?

SO glad to hear it was a great year for your daughter. We are very excited, but it’s such a big decision and it’s so much money, that occasionally some waves of “buyer’s regret” do come.

NEMONYC: Ontario is really a much better airport to fly out of (I just finished my freshman year). It is really close by and so many people on campus have cars so finding a ride is really never a big issue. I also recently discovered that Pitzer has shuttles that go to ONT (and LAX). I took the Pitzer shuttle to get to ONT and it was $8. Super Shuttle is good because you know it is always an option, I took it earlier this year for $25, but look aroud to find cheaper options as well.

Also, in terms of flights, try to get a flight that has a layover in Las Vegas or in Arizona (that way weather will never be an issue and flights will always run on time). I fly Southwest and there is always an option to go through Las Vegas and it usually has a 45 minute layover, so not bad at all.
