The welcome week schedule is so exciting. We've been preparing for months but it now it's becoming "real" to our family.

Move-in day is packed with activities besides moving in. There are afternoon events for parents and the reception with President Cowen. Hmmm...we are going to move in, go up and down stairs, trek across campus after parking with heat index probably over 100 (if the last couple of weeks is an indication) then be physically presentable ??? How does one manage to do this? Really, seems like it might be necessary to work in a shower and change sometime.

I’ve helped with Freshmen move in for the past two years, and both years I can say it was extremely hot. Everyone is lifting boxes, having long days, and yes, sweating a LOT. From my experience, everyone is so excited for the actual move in day that hardly anyone notices how much the next person is sweating (and if they do notice, it’s more of a “Oh thank goodness I’m not alone!” thought). It’s hot, it’s humid, and it even rained last year, and even it’s a few long, busy days, the families always seem super excited and ready to get the job done!

The other factor is the A/C is cranked, and the rooms and the LBC are usually quite cool since it virtually never stops running. So there is a chance to cool off a little at regular intervals. But everyone is indeed in the same boat, so I guess I really didn’t notice!

So do parents wear their “moving in” clothes to the reception? I was thinking t-shirt and shorts which doesn’t seem appropriate.

t-shirt and shorts are fine as I recall. Isn’t the reception out on the quad? I think we are talking about the same reception, the one after the convocation, and if so it is quite informal.

If it’s in the quad, that makes sense. Schedule I have right now didn’t specify.
