welcome week

I know it varies from school to school so am wondering if the majority or some parents stay for freshman convocation during the welcome week… Either way is fine and am not planning to interfere with “them” moving on but if it is a tradition would not want to miss it.

I would say the strong majority of parents do not stay for convocation. It is usually just dropping off the student and his stuff, help them set up for a couple hours and then off you go. But it is a personal choice and some parents certainly do go.

Thank you for your input @wayneandgarth.

I came across one of the older post on this:.

When I spoke to the university about the exact move in date ( everyone can move in by the 4 th) they said that this year was one of their shorter welcome weeks. They also said the their data has indicated that about 70 percent of parents who bring theory kids to campus stay through convocation. ( late in the day on the 4 th this year)

Has anybody attended? I would assume it may vary year to year.

How bout that. Well, what do I know.

Last year I dropped my daughter and her roommate off at the convocation and picked them up afterward. When I picked them up I saw thousands of students, very few parents. I don’t think this is really a parent thing. I moved my daughter in Friday, stayed for the game on Saturday, and left Sunday morning.

Nope, I don’t remember seeing parents at all at convocation. My parents stuck around and we had dinner afterwards, but they didn’t go with me. I think a lot of parents stay, but I don’t think very many attend, though I’m sure they’re welcome to go if you’d like them to be there.

Unpacked the car, kissed the kid, and got out of her hair. Went back in a couple weeks and took her to dinner so we could hear about all her classes, new friends, activities, etc.
