Well the office of financial aid help me till the end?

Ok, Soo...I got awarded two loans for this summer that come out to like 1,322 I have alittle problem though. My mom want's no involvement and she can't pay anything anyway, she's in serious debt from not working full hours because of carpal tunnel and severe back problems. She won't cosign for a loan and I doubt I would be approved with her debt. :-( I need like another 1,200 for housing and two books or even less.

I emailed the office and she told me to try Parent plus loan or a private lender which isn't going to work because of the debt.

What can I do? I would hate to have to turn to my mom and tell her about my problem, I'm almost certain that she's going to say "Well, what do you want me to do about it?"

It really sucks having no help, I really really sucks. I wish I could put down my brothers information on the Fafsa, instead of my mom who doesn't care anyway and have a EFC of probadly 0 instead of 4,321 that we really dont even have.

Any luck with this?

BBecker, I have been away from the site for awhile but checked in today.

Is there any friend or relative that can help you? That would be the first suggestion.

Have you throughly gone over the situation with all the school agency's and is there any additional help you can get from the state? Have you had a face to face or interview where you have been able to discuss this issue so they understand the problems with your mom and you?

I hesitate to tell you to pursue any personal school loans, but if you have to have money and can't get it from anything else I don't know if that might be something you might have to pursue.

I'm by no means a financial aide expert, but I hear time and time again that any student that wants to go to school won't be denied the ability because of financial issues so there should be a solution out there for you.

If a parent is turned down for a plus loan then the student may qualify for additional federal student loans. From http://www.finaid.org/loans/parentloan.phtml

[quote]
If a student's parents are denied a PLUS loan, or the college financial aid administrator determines that the parents are likely to be denied a PLUS loan, the student becomes eligible for increased Stafford Loan limits.

Any chance you can talk your Mom into applying for a parent plus loan knowing she will probably be turned down? Then it gives you the ability to apply for a student loan in your name.
