Well, this will be my last thread for a while.

Some of you on this board know that this is my third admissions cycle, and unfortunately, it won't be my last.

After not checking MyAndover since submitting my applicantion (I had done everything I needed to get done, and Andover said not to call about missing pieces as it takes time to input into the system), I checked this morning as I had not received anything from Andover in the mail and thought they may have possibly posted it on their site. Well, it turns out that they didn't receive any of my recommendations, thus making me a late applicant.

I don't think this has happened (an applicant who had turned in all their materials in on time and then being classified as a late applicant) in the history of CC Prep school admissions, but hey, there's a first for anything : ). I think the thing that upsets me the most is the two months I've been stressed about this decision, and it was never even made. I am then upset that I wasn't notified whatsoever that anything was missing from my application... but I can't blame Andover because I should have checked MyAndover sometime in that period.

Well, I will still send in my teacher recommendations and notify Andover that I would absolutely love the chance to go to their school, but I'm not going to get hung up over this.
Things come and go, opportunities are always there. I have a school in the South that has had displayed interest in me since last summer, so hopefully things can workout there :)

I would just like to thank everyone here on CC for everything they have done this past cycle. Our (myself and other applicants) "Parents" (ChoatieMom, DodgersMom, ClassicalMama, BusterDad, PelicanDad, GmtPlus7, just to name a few) who have blessed us with comfort, wisdom, empathy, among numerous other things. And all of my admission siblings. I hope, no, I KNOW that you will all accomplish amazing things later in your lives, and I want to let you all know the the road does not end here :)

Sincerely,
Azpandaman

I’m so sorry about that azpandaman! Hope everything works out!

azpandaman

How awful to have put in all that work and to get sideswiped by lost recommendations!

Understand you need to take a break, but hope you will come back soon because you are a helpful contributor.

Given the circumstances, you have a case for a very strong “late” application.

In the long run, it is useful to know that candidates who “almost” got admitted to competitive prep schools do just as well in college applications and performance as those who actually got in to the prep school. You have the drive, the vision and the intellect to go far wherever you end up.

@azpandaman - so sad for you, but what a great attitude! Glad you are moving forward.

If other students read this thread, a potential solution for future is to give the teachers a recommendation form and addressed stamped envelope with a green delivery confirmation attached to it (and enough postage to cover it). Keep track of the number. Delivery confirmation is cheaper than certified, or return receipt requested. If the teacher “says” they mailed it, you can track the number online to see when it was delivered to the school. If teachers don’t put it in the mail - you’ll know.
